Men and Women in Oriental Mindoro
(Results from 2007 Census of Population)
As of August 1, 2007, Oriental Mindoro had a total of 155,273 households, of which 85.9 percent
had male household head, and 14.1 percent had female household head.
Household population in Oriental Mindoro is composed of 375,272 males and 359,388 females or a
total of 734.7 thousands.

As shown in Figure 1, the biggest proportion of household population in Oriental Mindoro were
children 0 to 15 years (44.7%), while the least proportion was senior citizens (those aged 60 years
and over) at 5.8 percent.
The children were composed of 51.2 percent males and 48.8 percent females. The youth (those
aged 16-24 years) comprised of 53.0 percent males and 47.0 percent females. The adults (those
aged 25-59 years) were comprised of 51.3 percent males, and 48.7 percent females. The senior
citizens (60 years and over) were composed of 43.8 percent males and 56.2 percent females.

The sex ratio of household population in
Oriental Mindoro was 104 males for every 100
females. The youth had sex ratio of 113
males for every 100 females. The adult had
sex ratio of 106 males for every 100 females.
The children had sex ratio of 105 males for
every 100 females. Among the senior citizens,
the males were outnumbered by their
female counterparts with a sex ratio of 78
males for every 100 females.

Farmers, forestry workers and fishermen were the most common occupation in Oriental Mindoro
Persons aged 15 years and over are considered gainful workers during the past twelve months if
they work for at least 10 hours a week for six months or longer. Of the 734.7 thousands
household population, 217 thousands were males aged 15 years and over, and 208.2 thousands
were females aged 15 years old and over. Of the total males aged 15 years and over, 78.9
percent reported with gainful occupation while 30.4 percent for that of females.
Farmers, forestry workers and fishermen were the most common occupation in Oriental Mindoro.
About 80.8 thousands of the population 15 years old and over were employed as farmers,
forestry workers and fishermen. Of the total employment in this occupation group, the males
composed of the 92.9 percent and only 7.1 percent were females.
On the other hand, females outnumbered their male counterparts in the five occupation groups:
officials of government and special-interest organizations, corporate executive managers,
managing proprietors and supervisors (55.7%); service workers and shop and market sales
workers (58.0%); professionals (71.7%); clerical works (60.0%); and technicians and associate
professionals (52.2%).

Overseas workers count 7.6 thousands
Overseas worker is a household member who is currently out of the country due to overseas
employment.
Of the 528.8 thousands household population 10 years old and over, 51.1 percent were males
and 48.9 percent were females.
About 7.6 thousands (1.4%) of the household population 10 years old and over were overseas
worker. Of the total overseas worker 53.8 percent were males and 46.2 percent were females or
one in two overseas workers were males.

Household is a social unit consisting of a person living alone or a group of person who sleep in
the same housing unit and have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of
food.
Household population excludes the count of persons that belonged to the institutional living
quarter.
Total population includes the count of persons in the households and institutional living quarter.
Occupation refers to the kind of job or business, which a person was engaged in most of the time
during the last 12 months preceding the interview.
