<strong>Men</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Women</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Oriental</strong> M<strong>in</strong>doro<br />

(Results from 2007 Census of Population)<br />

As of August 1, 2007, <strong>Oriental</strong> M<strong>in</strong>doro had a total of 155,273 households, of which 85.9 percent<br />

had male household head, <strong>and</strong> 14.1 percent had female household head.<br />

Household population <strong>in</strong> <strong>Oriental</strong> M<strong>in</strong>doro is composed of 375,272 males <strong>and</strong> 359,388 females or a<br />

total of 734.7 thous<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

As shown <strong>in</strong> Figure 1, the biggest proportion of household population <strong>in</strong> <strong>Oriental</strong> M<strong>in</strong>doro were<br />

children 0 to 15 years (44.7%), while the least proportion was senior citizens (those aged 60 years<br />

<strong>and</strong> over) at 5.8 percent.<br />

The children were composed of 51.2 percent males <strong>and</strong> 48.8 percent females. The youth (those<br />

aged 16-24 years) comprised of 53.0 percent males <strong>and</strong> 47.0 percent females. The adults (those<br />

aged 25-59 years) were comprised of 51.3 percent males, <strong>and</strong> 48.7 percent females. The senior<br />

citizens (60 years <strong>and</strong> over) were composed of 43.8 percent males <strong>and</strong> 56.2 percent females.<br />

The sex ratio of household population <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Oriental</strong> M<strong>in</strong>doro was 104 males for every 100<br />

females. The youth had sex ratio of 113<br />

males for every 100 females. The adult had<br />

sex ratio of 106 males for every 100 females.<br />

The children had sex ratio of 105 males for<br />

every 100 females. Among the senior citizens,<br />

the males were outnumbered by their<br />

female counterparts with a sex ratio of 78<br />

males for every 100 females.<br />

Farmers, forestry workers <strong>and</strong> fishermen were the most common occupation <strong>in</strong> <strong>Oriental</strong> M<strong>in</strong>doro<br />

Persons aged 15 years <strong>and</strong> over are considered ga<strong>in</strong>ful workers dur<strong>in</strong>g the past twelve months if<br />

they work for at least 10 hours a week for six months or longer. Of the 734.7 thous<strong>and</strong>s<br />

household population, 217 thous<strong>and</strong>s were males aged 15 years <strong>and</strong> over, <strong>and</strong> 208.2 thous<strong>and</strong>s<br />

were females aged 15 years old <strong>and</strong> over. Of the total males aged 15 years <strong>and</strong> over, 78.9<br />

percent reported with ga<strong>in</strong>ful occupation while 30.4 percent for that of females.<br />

Farmers, forestry workers <strong>and</strong> fishermen were the most common occupation <strong>in</strong> <strong>Oriental</strong> M<strong>in</strong>doro.<br />

About 80.8 thous<strong>and</strong>s of the population 15 years old <strong>and</strong> over were employed as farmers,<br />

forestry workers <strong>and</strong> fishermen. Of the total employment <strong>in</strong> this occupation group, the males<br />

composed of the 92.9 percent <strong>and</strong> only 7.1 percent were females.<br />

On the other h<strong>and</strong>, females outnumbered their male counterparts <strong>in</strong> the five occupation groups:<br />

officials of government <strong>and</strong> special-<strong>in</strong>terest organizations, corporate executive managers,<br />

manag<strong>in</strong>g proprietors <strong>and</strong> supervisors (55.7%); service workers <strong>and</strong> shop <strong>and</strong> market sales<br />

workers (58.0%); professionals (71.7%); clerical works (60.0%); <strong>and</strong> technicians <strong>and</strong> associate<br />

professionals (52.2%).

Overseas workers count 7.6 thous<strong>and</strong>s<br />

Overseas worker is a household member who is currently out of the country due to overseas<br />

employment.<br />

Of the 528.8 thous<strong>and</strong>s household population 10 years old <strong>and</strong> over, 51.1 percent were males<br />

<strong>and</strong> 48.9 percent were females.<br />

About 7.6 thous<strong>and</strong>s (1.4%) of the household population 10 years old <strong>and</strong> over were overseas<br />

worker. Of the total overseas worker 53.8 percent were males <strong>and</strong> 46.2 percent were females or<br />

one <strong>in</strong> two overseas workers were males.<br />

food.<br />

Household population excludes the count of persons that belonged to the <strong>in</strong>stitutional liv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

quarter.<br />

Total population <strong>in</strong>cludes the count of persons <strong>in</strong> the households <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutional liv<strong>in</strong>g quarter.<br />

Occupation refers to the k<strong>in</strong>d of job or bus<strong>in</strong>ess, which a person was engaged <strong>in</strong> most of the time<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g the last 12 months preced<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>in</strong>terview.
