BAPTISMS
The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated either during a weekend Mass
or on the third Sunday of the month at 12:30 pm (immediately following
11:15 am Mass). Parents must attend a Baptism Preparation meeting
prior to the Baptism date. Meetings are held in the Parish Center at
7:00 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Please call the Parish
Center for more information.
THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK
If you or someone you know is in need of this Sacrament, please contact
the Parish Center at any time. Upon admission to the hospital, please
make it known you are a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
WEDDINGS
According to diocesan policy, the parish must be contacted six months
prior to the intended wedding date. Please call the Parish Center
(ext. 201) for information.
IF YOU ARE HOSPITALIZED…
If you or a family member are admitted to the hospital, please
contact the Parish Center to let us know. Due to federal
regulations, most hospitals will not contact parishes unless
you specifically request it. We want to visit parishioners in the
hospital, but are often unaware of their hospitalization.
FRIDAY COMMUNION CALLS
Fr. Slawek makes communion calls every
Friday for those unable to attend Sunday mass
due to illness or bad health.
Please call Fr. Slawek at 630-773-1272 (ext. 208)
to make arrangements.
If it is too difficult for you to walk to the front of
the church to receive Communion, please know
that at each Mass an Extraordinary Minister of Holy
Communion comes to the back of the church to
distribute Communion. If you would like to have
the Extraordinary Minister give you communion in
the back of church, please let an usher know before Mass
begins. At Communion time, when you see the Extraordinary
Minister come to the back, please raise your hand so that they
can see you and give you Holy Communion.

Fr. Slawek Answers Your Questions About Faith
If anyone has any additional questions they would like me to answer,
please put the question(s) in the collection basket.
The following question was received in the Question Box at the back of the church:
In my St. Therese prayer book… “We get what we pray for, but not always what we expected.”
This sounds like a contradiction. Can you please explain this? Thank you!
Answer:
God always hears and answers our prayers. He initiates our prayers through the Holy Spirit who actually puts the
prayer(s) in our hearts. He sees the past, present and future all at one time, unlike us who can only see the past and
present while the future is a mystery. Because God can see all time at once; He answers our prayers based on that
knowledge and His infinite love for us. He has the complete picture and knows what is best. Sometimes our answered
prayer is revealed to us in stages.
A good example of not getting what we expected and our prayer being revealed to us gradually would be someone who
has interviewed for a job. They have the talent and skill level necessary for the position, the commute is minimal, everything
about the job shouts “this is perfect and what I have been waiting for”. You pray to God to please make this job happen and
you don’t get it. Your first thought maybe God did not listen or care about your prayer but then you realize he must have
something even better in mind for you although it certainly isn’t apparent. A couple of months later, you do get another job
which you like very much. The new company recognizes your skills and talents and promotes you to a position that not only
makes more money to support your growing family but challenges you in new and exciting ways. There is also a person on
your new team that you help to grow in his Catholic faith which increases your faith, as well. Months to a year after that, you
find out the job you thought was so perfect was eliminated due to downsizing while you are marveling at your good fortune
and God’s goodness and wisdom. God was able to see what you could not. We have to always remember everything
works for the good for those who love God and with God all things are possible.
I would like to thank those who responded to help the ladies on Thursday morning with the grounds maintenance.
With Dick Rose’s helpm the playground area has been nicely trimmed. Betty Letarte, along with Jim Letarte, and their
grandchildren, Alexander and Cydney Maris, trimmed and groomed the church, office and rectory areas. Thank you all
who generously give of your time on Thursday mornings to keep our parish grounds maintained so beautifully.
Have a blessed week.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Sławek
Join our Holy Father,
Pope Francis, in his
June prayers for the
Church and for the
world:
General Intention:
That a culture of dialogue, listening and reciprocal respect
may prevail among the nations.
Missionary Intention:
That in the areas where the influx of secularization is
strongest, Christian communities may learn to effectively
promote a new evangelization.
Transitional Housing News
St. Peters has a newly adopted family—a 28 year old mom
and her two daughters, 11 and 4. She was born in Sudan
and has experienced the horrors of civil war, living in the
forest and refugee camps in Uganda without her parents.
She was married while in Uganda and through the UN, she
and her brother came to the US without her husband and
settled in Glendale Heights.
She had her first daughter here in the US and was living
with her brother. She went back to Uganda to see her
husband and returned to this country pregnant with her
second daughter. Her relationship with her husband
however had changed.
Living with her brother and his wife became abusive and
she had to leave, living from place to place and eventually
going to a family shelter. It was there that she contacted
Bridge Communities who then introduced her to St. Peters.
She has little to no furniture, so we need some help from
the parish. Below is a list of some of our needs at this time:
•twin beds
•regular bed
•lamps
•flat screen TV
As for those who work in the medical
profession, they ought to neglect no means
of making all their skill available to the sick
and dying; but they should also remember
how much more necessary it is to provide
them with the comfort of boundless
kindness and heartfelt charity. Such service
to people is also service to Christ the Lord, who said:
“As you did it to one of the least of these my brethren,
you did it to me” (Mt. 25:40).
