RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)

BAPTISMS
The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated either during a weekend Mass or on the
third Sunday of the month (except during Lent) at 12:00 noon (immediately
following 11:15 am Mass). Parents must attend a Baptism Preparation meeting
prior to the Baptism date. Meetings are held in the Parish Center at 7:00 pm on the
first Thursday of each month. Please call the Parish Center for more information.
THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK
If you or someone you know is in need of this Sacrament, please contact the
Parish Center at any time. Upon admission to the hospital, please make it known
you are a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
WEDDINGS
According to diocesan policy, the parish must be contacted six months prior to the
intended wedding date. Please call the Parish Center (ext. 201) for information.

If you are hospitalized…
If you or a member of your family are admitted to the hospital,
please contact the Parish Center to let us know. Due to new
federal regulations, most hospitals will not contact parishes
unless you specifically request it. We want to visit our
parishioners in the hospital, but we are often unaware of their
hospitalization.
Friday Communion Calls
Fr. Slawek makes communion calls every
Friday for those unable to attend Sunday
mass due to illness or bad health.
Please call Fr. Slawek at 630-773-1272 (ext.
208) to make arrangements.
If it is too difficult for you to walk to the front of
the church to receive Communion, please know
that at each Mass an Extraordinary Minister of
Holy Communion comes to the back of the church
to distribute Communion. If you would like to
have the Extraordinary Minister give you
communion in the back of church, please let an usher know
before Mass begins. At Communion time, when you see the
Extraordinary Minister come to the back, please raise your
hand so that they can see you and give you Holy Communion.

Congratulations to all of our children who made their First Holy Communion on
Saturday. May you become more like Jesus as you receive Him every Sunday
in the Eucharist. Thank you to all of those who prepared our children for the
reception of the “Sacrament of sacraments”.
We are entering the time of year when a lot of Confirmations, First Holy
Communions, and weddings take place. We, as Catholics, have the great
honor and privilege to be able to receive Our Lord, Jesus, in the Holy Eucharist
at mass at these special occasions of our lives. We also have to remember
that the participation in these special masses does not fulfill the obligation of
attending Holy Mass on Sunday and receiving Holy Communion worthily.
Often due to misinformation or improper catechesis, some Catholics do not believe it is necessary to fulfill the Sunday
obligation anymore. It is a grave sin to miss mass on Sunday unless there is a very good reason, such as illness,
taking care of the sick, etc. Going on vacation does not constitute a good reason to miss Sunday mass unless it is
absolutely impossible to go to mass due to there being no mass available to attend. Not going to mass on Sunday
because you went to a wedding on Saturday leaving you too tired to go is another example of an invalid reason to
miss mass.
If a Sunday mass has been missed due to our own fault, we cannot receive Holy Communion again without making a
confession. To receive holy communion unworthily is adding another grave sin upon the one from not keeping the
Sunday obligation. While some people may think it is alright to receive holy communion anytime, doing so while in a
state of mortal sin is sacrilegious, because the soul is no longer in a state of grace. St. Paul tells us, "Whoever,
therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and
blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup" (1 Cor. 11:27–28).
Because of our weakness due to our human nature, Jesus instituted for us the sacrament of reconciliation to restore
our relationship with Him and one another. He has given us the Eucharist to strengthen us during our journey during
our earthly life. As Jesus tells us in John 6:53-54, "truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man
and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise
him up at the last day.”
I want to encourage all of you to receive the sacrament of reconciliation as much as needed so you are always in a
state of grace. Jesus teaches us, we never know the day or time he will call us home. Our souls must always be
ready.
Especially in this year of the Eucharist in the Joliet Diocese, I encourage you to make an effort to deepen your
devotion to the Holy Eucharist which is an extraordinary gift we receive from Our Savior, Jesus Christ.

What a Powerful Ending to a Great year of Religious Education!
Two weeks before all children went home with the basic
questions taught at their grade level to study with their
family or friends. And then the day came with Andrzej, our
music director, at the keyboard making the sounds of game
show and Sebastian, our seminarian calling out the names of
contestants.
Mrs. Kathy Frank organized a game made just for the day
where children could call a friend from the assembly,
ask one of the expert catechists or poll the entire group
present before they answered each question.
At the end of the game, Sebastian asked who could sing the
Opening Song at the microphone. Dylan Williams was more
than happy to give it a try and everyone applauded.
As catechists left the church, the comments were in unison
that they want all the classes next year to be as much fun
and have the children learn so much about our faith. Thanks
to all that helped make it a special day for all of us!

ONE MILLION ROSARIES FOR UNBORN BABIES
The intention for this Rosary will be for the end to the
surgical and non-surgical killing of unborn human persons.
In order to be a participant, a person will need to pray at
least one Rosary for the above-stated intention, and the
Rosary will need to be prayed on May 7th, 8th or 9th.
People are encouraged to pray more than one Rosary, but
this is not required. The Friday, May 7th date is
particularly intended for students to pray the Rosary
at schools. The Sunday, May 9th date is particularly
intended for people at parishes to pray the Rosary before
or after Masses.

There’s always something fun
to do at Summer Fun Day Camp...
Lisle, Illinois—Soccer, relay races, sand volleyball,
tug-o-war, fishing, computers, movies, reading, arts and
crafts, and new this year, academic-based activities
supervised by state board-certified teachers—there is always
something fun to do at Benedictine University’s Summer
Fun Day Camp.
Boys and girls ages 5-13 are invited to spend a fun-filled
summer at Benedictine University’s Summer Fun Day Camp
2010 beginning with the first of nine weekly sessions on
Monday, June 7. Registration begins April 1.
The camp is sponsored and operated by the University and
its staff and students serve as camp directors and counselors.
The camp strives to maintain a 10:1 camper-to-staff ratio.
Lunch is provided each day and campers can bring a snack
to enjoy during the morning.
The camp runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to
5:30 pm. The cost is $185 per week ($148 for July 6-9) and
there is a $10 per session discount for a second child.
Sessions are June 7-11, June 14-189, June 21-25,
June 28-July 2, July 6-9 (no camp July 5), July 12-16,
July 19-23, July 26-30 and August 2-6.

Basketball camp gives youngsters the
chance to learn, make friendships...
Boys in grades 3-8 who want to learn the proper techniques
and fundamentals of basketball should attend Benedictine
University’s Eagle Basketball Camp from 9:00 am to 3:30
pm on Tuesday, June 22 through Friday, June 25 in the
Dan and Ada Rice Center on the University campus.
The goal of the Eagle Basketball Camp is to create an
entertaining environment for learning the game of
basketball. The camp focuses on excellent instruction in the
fundamentals of offensive and defensive basketball to make
each camper a better basketball player while placing them
in a setting where they can develop lasting friendships with
their fellow campers and coaches.
The clinics are conducted by Benedictine University men’s
basketball coach Keith Bunkenburg and women’s coach Paul
Nelson. Bunkenburg has guided the Eagles to five
conference titles and four NCAA tournament appearances.
His .667 winning percentage ranks 23rd among active
NCAA Division III coaches. Nelson led the Benedictine
women to a second-place Northern Athletics Conference
South division finish in 2009-2010 and has been involved as
a player or coach at Benedictine for 16 years.
The camp fee is $185. All money goes directly to the men’s
and women’s basketball programs at Benedictine. Each
camper receives a %-shirt and free lunch every day.
