regional selection competition<br />
Geographic areas from which the <strong>Foundation</strong> has secured contributions of at least $500,000 are<br />
eligible to become part of the annual regional competition process. Regional selection committees<br />
composed of University alumni and friends are charged annually with the responsibility of reviewing<br />
and screening all nominees from their areas. Based on the number of schools participating in each<br />
region, the regional committees select from one to as many as four candidates as finalists in the<br />
competition.<br />

n James Rogers and Sarah Touse accepted<br />
internships with McKinsey and Co. and spent the<br />
summer working with the eight <strong>Jefferson</strong> Scholar<br />
alumni affiliated with the Atlanta office.<br />
n James Rogers interned during the academic<br />
year at Investure, the Charlottesville financial firm<br />
where Clay Thomson (Class of 1996) is a director.<br />
n Lynne Kolodinsky spent six weeks working<br />
with Maria Pulzetti (Class of 1999) in the Capital<br />
Habeas Unit of the Federal Defender’s Office in<br />
Philadelphia.<br />
n Lauren Groetch worked with Kevin Simowitz<br />
(Class of 2008) as an intern at the Virginia Organizing<br />
Project.<br />
n Warren Mackie-Jenkins spent most of his<br />
summer researching rural health in South Carolina<br />
with Dr. Paul DeMarco (Class of 1985).<br />
n Lee Eschenroeder spent his summer at “Primeros<br />
Pasos,” a health clinic in Guatemala founded by<br />
