Summer Prayer and
Healing Ministry Schedule
During the months of July and August, the
Prayer and Healing ministry schedule is as
follows.
o Tuesday mornings after the 9:00am
Mass, in the Norris Chapel;
o Tuesday evenings, during the
Charismatic Prayer Group Meetings:
7:30-9:00pm, Norris Chapel; and
o By appointment. – Call Jerry Linn, 301-
253-8647; or the Parish Secretary. When
invited, a prayer team will join you in
prayer for you or your loved ones in the
hospital, nursing home, your home, or the
Norris Chapel.

In September, we will return to a schedule that
includes Prayer and Healing Ministry on the
First Sunday, and also on First Wednesday
after the Healing Mass at 7:30pm in the
Norris Chapel.

Liturgy
12 th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
As we walk with Jesus through His public
ministry during the period of Ordinary Time, we
find ourselves on the western shore of the Sea of
Galilee. Jesus has just completed His teaching
of the parable of the mustard seed. What we will
hear today is the first of three miraculous
actions:
1) The stilling of the storm (Mark 4:35-40)
2) Exorcizing a demon (Mark 5:1-20)
3) Healing the sick (Mark 5:21-43)
Recalling this episode (of calming the sea) must
have often helped the apostles during their
struggles. We are all one body with Jesus as the
head – we can overcome even what appear to be
insurmountable obstacles. Life is like a boat,
exposed to a myriad of dangers; temptations,
occasions to sin, bad counsels of men, passions
of corrupt nature, etc. Never lose confidence –
when temptations arise, keep your eyes on God,
who alone can deliver us.

Delivering Food, Shelter and Hope to the
Poorest of the Poor
On the weekend of July 7/8, Msgr. Jed Patrick
of Cross Catholic Outreach will be visiting our
parish to speak at all the Masses on behalf of the
poor in developing countries. Cross Catholic
Outreach was founded to create a meaningful
link between parishes in America and the
priests and nuns working in the Church overseas
in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and
South America.
About Msgr. John E. “Jed” Patrick
Monsignor John E. “Jed” Patrick, a native of
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, was ordained to
the priesthood at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome
on December 21, 1967.
He served as a priest of the Diocese of
Marquette for almost 45 years as an Associate
Pastor, Pastor, Vocation Director and Vicar
General. He retired in July 2009 and became a
“senior priest”. Msgr. Jed enjoys visiting
parishes and substituting for his brother priests
in Marquette and in the Diocese of Palm Beach,
Florida.
Msgr. Jed is looking forward to a meaningful
relationship with Cross Catholic “delivering
food, shelter and hope for the poorest of the
poor”. He says, “It is a welcome privilege to
serve our poor sisters and brothers in this small
way.”

POOR BOX - Do you ever
wonder what happens to the money
that is collected from the poor box?
Well, it stays right here in the
Damascus community. Saint Paul is receiving a high
volume of calls for help from community residents,
parishioners, Department of Social Services, Faith
Connections and Damascus Help. The Poor Box
goes for housing assistance, to the Damascus Social
Worker and Damascus Help for utility/medical
assistance and to purchase perishable foods. Please
be generous - - a dollar will do.
Faith Connections and
Damascus HELP are sponsoring
the annual school supply drive
again this year. We are planning
to provide more than 300 needy
students with new school supplies and backpacks to
help them have a great 2012-2013 school year.
Please keep us in mind when going school shopping.
DAMASCUS SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM –
Summer food program that helps the families who
live in the Damascus Gardens and Perrywood
apartments. For the kids of these communities who are
eligible for both breakfast and lunch in school, there is
no summer lunch program. We are asking for donated
items for lunch and breakfast. For more information

SUMMER FAITH ACTIVITIES
FOR CHILDREN
Faith & Fun Fridays! Registration is underway! Rising 6-8 th graders, come join us
for one, two, three or all four of our Fun Faith Fridays!
July 27 – Swimming at G-Burg Swim Park
August 3 – Laser tag!
August 10 – Bowling!
August 17 – Adventure Park!
The fee for each day is $37.00, which includes bus transportation, activities and all
fees at the amusement venue. The day begins and ends at Saint Paul Parish - -
10:00am-4:30pm. It’s like a day camp!
And more good news! These events will be led by young adult leaders from our parish!
The event coordinators are Matt Curley (July 27, August 3 & 17) and Cathy Creegan
(August 10). Several other young men and women of our parish will also be
involved in leading our youth during Fun & Faith Fridays! Registration deadline is
July 18 th .

For those being confirmed on September 25, 2012: Check your email inbox for
interview dates starting next month. These interviews will be small group in format and
will be led by one of our Deacons or our Pastor, Father Pierce. Parents are highly
encouraged to attend with their son/daughter, but are not required to do so.
For those new Candidates who wish to be confirmed in the Fall of 2013: Initial
interviews will begin in July as well. These are also small group in format and
will be led by either Lisa Nueslein or Julie Sparacino. Parents must attend with their
candidate to ensure their understanding of the sacramental preparation expectations.

transportation for this event. RSVP to the Rectory

our first ever chili-cookoff! Bring a pot of your
secret recipe chili for an official judging! Prizes
will be awarded! Afterwards, stick around for an
outdoor movie! *Please bring a side

SHRINE - Serving as a guide or receptionist at
the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception is a beautiful ministry that offers an
opportunity to share one's faith with others. It also
enriches the experience of those who come to the

Today we celebrate the Nativity of Saint John the
Baptist. Just like John the Baptist each one of
us has been fearfully, wonderfully made by God
