Dr. Robert Rainwater was named acting
president of Virginia Intermont in January
following the resignation of Dr. Michael
J. Puglisi, who served the college for 14
years.

Correction of publication error:
The June 2009 issue of Intermont
magazine erroneously reported that
Virginia Intermont College’s accreditation
had been Reaffirmed. That was not
correct. Reaffirmation of accreditation
by the Commission on Colleges of the
Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools is the result of a satisfactory
decennial accreditation review, usually
at least a two-year process. The action
that was taken by the Commission in
June 2009 was to remove the institution
from Probation and continue it in
accreditation. Virginia Intermont College
is now engaged in the Reaffirmation
process and will receive the On-
Site Committee visit as part of that
review in fall 2010. The Commission
will take action on Reaffirmation of
the institution’s accreditation at the
Commission’s meeting in June 2011. We
apologize for this error. We did not intend
to misrepresent the accreditation action
that was taken last June.
