LCTCS Annual Conference The Foundation provides private financial support for the LCTCS Annual Conference, the annual state-wide professional development opportunity for community and technical college faculty and staff, which is managed by Goss’s office. Private support enables the LCTCS to provide a highcaliber, memorable experience for attendees. In 2012, the conference was held at the Shreveport Convention Center and attracted nearly 1000 attendees, the highest number of participants of any annual conference to date. Budget cuts have made it difficult for faculty and staff of community and technical colleges to participate in professional development opportunities out of state. That makes the annual conference all the more significant as a source of best practices and innovations. The LCTCS is the only system of postsecondary education in Louisiana that has a state-wide conference. Goss adds, “We feel strongly that it is important for our faculty and staff to have the opportunity at least once a year to come together, connect and collaborate across colleges, and renew our inspiration for our mission. In addition, a highlight every year is our recognition of outstanding faculty, staff and administrators at the closing luncheon. With Foundation support, we are able to really celebrate them. The support of the Foundation has provided a way for the conference to evolve into a truly meaningful and memorable event.” 10 | Moves Magazine
“Thanks to support from the Foundation our advocacy efforts have been incredibly successful. We’ve been able to pass 32 separate pieces of legislation in Louisiana that support our colleges, our students and our future growth.” The Return on Investment - Industry Speaks More than ever, donors are finding that investment in Louisiana community and technical colleges translates into immediate, tangible impact. The Dow Chemical Company has made significant gifts to community and technical education in Louisiana, including a $1 million gift in 2011 to build a new technical college campus in Iberville Parish. Dow has also provided numerous scholarships in process technology and recently funded students to attend the Salzburg Global Seminar. “Every year, we survey our neighbors and stakeholders about the kinds of things they feel we should support and we have found that the issue of workforce education has become really important to them,” said Dow Public Affairs Director Stacey Chaisson. “We’ve been very pleased to support community and technical education because when you invest in it, the payoff is almost immediate.
