<strong>GEHA</strong> dental benefits increase in 2013<br />

EHA is committed to providing<br />
excellent, comprehensive dental<br />
benefits for federal employees, retirees<br />
and their dependents. In 2013 our<br />
FEDVIP dental benefits will be better<br />
than ever. We have improved our benefit<br />
structure in a variety of ways, from<br />
increasing maximum benefits to<br />
reducing our orthodontic waiting period.<br />
Plan highlights include:<br />
• High Option plan members now<br />
enjoy an increased maximum benefit<br />
of $12,000 per calendar year. Our<br />
Standard Option plan offers a maximum<br />
annual benefit of $2,500.<br />
• The orthodontic lifetime maximum<br />
under our High Option plan has<br />
increased to $2,500. Standard Option<br />
plan members have a $1,500 lifetime<br />
orthodontic maximum.<br />
• We have reduced our orthodontic<br />
waiting period to 12 months. Orthodontic<br />
care is covered for children up to age 19.<br />
• Our plan features no waiting period for<br />
all procedures except orthodontics, no<br />
deductible and the freedom to visit any<br />
dentist.<br />
• <strong>GEHA</strong> offers free in-network preventive<br />
care including exams, X-rays and two<br />
cleanings per year to help you stay on<br />
top of your basic oral health care needs.<br />
• Dental plan members receive vision<br />
care for no additional premium through<br />
our Connection Vision ® powered by<br />
EyeMed program.<br />
Anyone who is eligible for FEDVIP<br />
coverage can enroll in our Connection<br />
Dental Federal ® plan at BENEFEDS.com<br />
or by calling (877) 888-3337. Members<br />
do not have to be enrolled in <strong>GEHA</strong>’s<br />

<strong>GEHA</strong> offers a number of wellness<br />
programs and services to support and<br />
encourage healthy-living among our<br />
plan members, including:<br />
• Health Rewards program. <strong>GEHA</strong><br />
rewards our plan members and their<br />
spouses for making healthy choices.<br />
Participants in <strong>GEHA</strong>’s Health Rewards<br />
program can earn points for completing<br />
an online health assessment and for<br />
participating in health and wellness<br />
activities throughout the year. Points can<br />
then be redeemed for wellness-related<br />
rewards like pedometers, spa items or<br />
fitness equipment. Health Rewards is<br />

• Connection Fitness ® powered by<br />
GlobalFit. All <strong>GEHA</strong> health plan<br />
members and their covered dependents<br />
have access to our Connection Fitness<br />
program. Plan members receive<br />
discounts on gym memberships,<br />
fitness equipment, fitness videos and<br />
Nutrisystem ® meals. GlobalFit’s Exercise<br />
on Demand program is available free of<br />
charge. Members also have access to<br />
virtual health or nutrition coaching for a<br />

Manage your health care funds<br />
with Health Savings Advantage<br />
Looking for a way to stretch your health<br />
care dollars? <strong>GEHA</strong>’s Health Savings<br />
Advantage plan offers you control over<br />
how and where your health care funds<br />
are spent. The plan has two parts; a<br />
high-deductible health plan and a health<br />
savings account.<br />
Our high-deductible health plan (HDHP)<br />
offers free, unlimited preventive care<br />
services. Most other care is paid at<br />
95% after you pay the annual<br />
deductible. Our Self Only plan has a<br />
$1,500 annual deductible, while our<br />
Self + Family plan has a $3,000<br />
annual deductible.<br />
The Health Savings Advantage plan<br />
also features a Health Savings Account<br />
(HSA), funded through deposits from<br />
<strong>GEHA</strong>. Each year <strong>GEHA</strong> will contribute<br />

Health Savings<br />

$750 for Self Only plans and $1500 for<br />
Self + Family plans. Deposits occur on<br />
a monthly basis. HSA funds may be<br />
used at your discretion to cover your<br />
deductible and copays, or to pay for<br />
prescription drugs, doctor visits or<br />
other health care costs. Best of all, a<br />
“use it or lose it” penalty does not<br />
apply to your HSA. Unused funds will<br />
rollover and earn tax-free interest.<br />
You may also choose to have your<br />
own HSA contributions withdrawn from<br />

Mini pumpkingingerbread<br />
cupcakes<br />
These versatile little cakes can be<br />
enjoyed as breakfast muffins, snacks<br />
or dessert. By using natural cane<br />
sugar, whole wheat pastry flour and<br />
expeller pressed canola oil; these<br />
cupcakes are a more healthful version<br />
of the common seasonal cupcakes<br />
that come loaded with white sugar,<br />
hydrogenated vegetable oil and<br />
artificial flavorings.<br />
Ingredients:<br />
• 1 cup all-purpose flour<br />
• 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour<br />
• 2 teaspoons baking powder<br />
• 2 teaspoons ground ginger<br />
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon<br />
• 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg<br />
• 1/4 teaspoon salt<br />
• 1 cup sugar<br />
• 1/2 cup expeller pressed canola oil<br />
• 2 eggs<br />
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract<br />
• 1 cup canned pumpkin purée<br />
Method:<br />
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a<br />
miniature muffin pan with mini cupcake<br />
liners or spray and flour the pan using<br />
canola or olive oil cooking spray.<br />
Set aside.<br />
In a large mixing bowl, stir together<br />
flours, baking powder, ginger,<br />
cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and sugar.<br />
In a separate medium bowl, whisk<br />
together oil, eggs, vanilla and pumpkin,<br />
then add to flour mixture and stir to<br />
combine.<br />
Spoon batter into prepared pan and<br />
bake for 15 minutes, or until done<br />
when tested with a toothpick. Allow<br />
cupcakes to cool in the pan for<br />
15 minutes, then continue to cool on<br />
wire racks. Makes 32 cupcakes.<br />
