Bill Sofield often uses a dramatic mirror is a placeholder for - or sometimes an alternative to - wall art. The stylized serpentine form of the Josephine draws from the
Regency Modern looks of the 1930s. A slight reveal creates the look of a frame within a frame. An irregular carved edge adds both texture and shadow.
Used vertically, the Josephine is a Pier Mirror-ideal over a chest or console. Placed horizontally, it offers a striking panoramic effect, a distinctive Modern accent for
downtown living. Hung low, it could conceivably work as a full length mirror.

equal part looking glass and gateway to fantasy. A running vine motif transforms a Georgian form-complete with a swan neck pediment and a spiral finial-to
something organic, sculptural, and new.
While the scale of the Savoy makes a statement, a modest taper from top to bottom adds a hint of lightness to the form. The flow of the vine offers a sense of
dimension. Often, the size will encourage placement in a large foyer or over a fireplace.

Loosely inspired by a kimono with cherry blossoms rendered in an Art Deco manner, Thomas Pheasant views the Blossom Mirror as one of those rare but riveting
objects that finish a room. The mirror has a textured banding immediately around it. A much larger and more dramatic, but still somewhat organic, Bronze
frame requires more than 100 welds to secure a sculpture consisting of five-sided flowers. A total of 18 crystal blossoms, in two sizes, are then positioned for
dimensional effect. The resulting play of shadow, light, and prismatic rainbow rustles against the wall. The mirror is convex, and the surrounding rim has an
organic texture.
While the Blossom Mirror would be a focal point anywhere, the first impression created in an entry would define not just a room but an entire home. This is very
large, very intricate jewelry.

In lieu of sconces, Thomas Pheasant designed a pair of small mirrors for his dining room. Rather than adding light, they seemed to multiply it, and his guests have
been smitten. The LeLoop is that idea - the concentric ellipse - translated to something bigger, better, and larger than life. The simplicity of the form shows off
subtle metalwork. The dark hammered texture on the outer frame gives way to delicate rub-though creating an outline of sorts, only trumped by the changing depth
of the rim itself.
The LeLoop is one of those rare but riveting objects that finish a room. It is big enough to fill wall space but proportioned to work in an entryway or a landing.
Often used in pairs, it can make a room seem more visually open. That effect can lend a traditional setting new freshness - making it more "of the moment," or even
modern.

QUINTETTE MIRROR
In Paris, the best inspiration is sometimes just a good walk. The Quintette relies on a stylized leaf design similar to terra cotta tiles on the façade of a 1930s
apartment building. From that small detail, the tucked away memory of a curious glance, Thomas Pheasant conceived of something large, elegant, and altogether
different in shape. The five-sided blossom is used for both the decorative outer frame and the plain glass mirror - with the latter rotated just enough to create its own
sense of symmetry. Each panel appears in relief. Overall, the mirror has a surprising amount of dimension, and it projects out in a dish-like effect away from the
center.
With that dimension, high relief, and important scale, the Quintette probably requires something substantial to visually anchor it. That might be a credenza, a
fireplace, or an architectural element.

The Icon is inspired by the glass ornament that decorates many of the pieces found in Pheasant's private collection line. A solid sphere of lucite is surrounded by
three frames comprised of brass shards welded to a brass armature. Each shard is set into the armature by hand then joined to create a multi-dimensional effect.
The entire structure is then dipped in acid before being finished in Polished Bronze. The finish is hand-rubbed to bring out its warm patina.

GOLD TOAD
A recurring theme in Duquette's work, toads of every shape and size were traded back and forth between Duquette and his closest friends as part of a playful ongoing
exchange. His Gold Toad was designed to eclipse all prior versions and was never traded but held in a place of honor in his home. The original Gold Toad still
resides as part of the collection housed at the Tony Duquette studio in Los Angeles. Its complex, skeletal form is cast from bronze then plated in 24-karat gold. The
sculpture rests on a square, transparent base. Circa 1970.

INSECT MAN
The original Insect Man was unveiled as part of Tony Duquette's first exhibition at the prestigious Mitch Leison Gallery in Los Angeles, and served as a unique
backdrop to present one of Duquette's jewelry designs. Standing over 18 inches in height, the impressive sculpture is crafted from steel strands, which are heated and
manipulated into its complex, organic shape. It is then finished in a choice of Gold Paint or Pearl Paint. Circa 1947.
