border with Austria, the Erste &<br />
Neue winery now has some 500<br />
growers. The wine is made entirely<br />
from Lagrein—a local grape and<br />
one of 13 used by the winery—<br />
which lends the wine dominant<br />
aromas and flavors of cherry.<br />
After fermentation in stainlesssteel<br />
tanks and barrel aging,<br />
those notes meld with the wine’s<br />
soft tannins. A soft, almost bitter<br />
chocolate note is present on the<br />
finish, giving this medium-bodied<br />
red wine an earthy complexity<br />
and making it a really nice choice<br />
with slow-roasted meats and hard<br />
cheeses.<br />
