As much as the cliché “giant killer”<br />
gets overused in the pages covering our industry,<br />
there are indeed a few products that offer<br />
performance well beyond the pricetag put upon<br />
them. More often than not, this is at the beginning<br />
of a company’s career, when they don’t<br />
have a big building, staff, inventory or advertising<br />
budget. There’s no free lunch – capacitors,<br />
resistors and transformers cost what they cost.<br />
But when you catch a new product at the beginning<br />
of its lifespan, there are deals to be had.<br />
Enter the Lounge Audio mk.III phonostage.<br />
Last year, I was knocked out of my chair<br />
by the mk. II version of Lounge Audio’s LCR<br />
phonostage. This refers to the passive network<br />
used to provide RIAA equalization for the delicate<br />
phono signal, and it has been the hat that<br />
