<strong>2010</strong> Services<br />
provided to more than 35,000 people through telephone hot-line calls, individual<br />
or group counseling, accompaniment <strong>of</strong> victims to medical facilities and advocacy<br />
on behalf <strong>of</strong> victims within <strong>the</strong> criminal justice system. The RCSVPP funds at<br />
least one Rape Crisis Center in every county.<br />

NYS Department <strong>of</strong> Labor (DOL):<br />
• Provided unemployment insurance to 184 NYS clients who lost or had to leave<br />
employment due to domestic violence issues.<br />

NYS <strong>Office</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Prevention</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> (OPDV)<br />
• New York State supports two statewide victim hotlines, which toge<strong>the</strong>r received<br />
14,223 calls from individuals seeking help.<br />
• Victim Resource Services: Provided through a partnership with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Victims Services and OPDV, <strong>the</strong> Victim Resource Coordinator provided<br />
compensation claims assistance, telephone support, in<strong>for</strong>mation and referral,<br />
criminal justice support advocacy, emergency assistance, and personal advocacy,<br />
<strong>for</strong> 269 callers and 249 emails and written correspondence in <strong>2010</strong>. Victims <strong>of</strong><br />
crime call <strong>for</strong> help with many issues, including but not limited to systems failures<br />
(police, courts, and social services), immediate crisis, lack <strong>of</strong> permanent housing,<br />
advocacy and appropriate referrals.<br />

NYS <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA)<br />
• Provided $3,262,450 in Homeless Housing Assistance Program (HHAP) funding<br />
to Unity House <strong>for</strong> relocation and expansion. Unity House has had to turn away<br />
significant numbers <strong>of</strong> victims and <strong>the</strong>ir children because <strong>the</strong> existing shelter was<br />
ei<strong>the</strong>r at capacity or could not accommodate a family <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> composition in need<br />
<strong>of</strong> shelter. In addition <strong>the</strong> existing shelter was not handicapped accessible, could<br />
not group single adults with special needs toge<strong>the</strong>r, but separate from families,<br />
and could not accommodate state <strong>of</strong> art safety and security systems. Construction<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new shelter began during <strong>2010</strong> and is expected to be completed in 2011.<br />
