Training<br />

• Partnered with OPDV on a federal grant to develop written curricula and deliver<br />

training to domestic violence service providers on <strong>the</strong> three high-priority topics <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong>fender accountability, Expanded Access, and interview techniques <strong>for</strong> victims<br />

<strong>of</strong> domestic violence and intimate partner sexual assault. The overall goal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

project, comprised <strong>of</strong> five NYS agency partners, is <strong>the</strong> statewide promulgation <strong>of</strong><br />

interactive training tools <strong>for</strong> advocates, to institutionalize a consistent, long-term<br />

response to victim safety and services.<br />

• Partnered with OPDV to hold a webinar on Expanded Access to Family Court.<br />

• 2 DELTA Program trainings <strong>for</strong> Long Island.<br />

• Training on <strong>the</strong> Intersection <strong>of</strong> <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> and Poverty in Baton Rouge,<br />

Louisiana <strong>for</strong> prosecutors, judges, police departments and domestic violence<br />

advocates.<br />

NYS <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> Court Administration (OCA)<br />

• <strong>Domestic</strong> violence training is provided at <strong>the</strong> annual new judges seminars and is a<br />

component <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> training at <strong>the</strong> Court <strong>Office</strong>rs Academy.<br />

• Family <strong>Violence</strong> Task Force training program <strong>for</strong> judges and court attorneys<br />

focused on risks and remedies, strangulation and orders <strong>of</strong> protection.<br />

• Integrated <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> Initiatives judges and staff received training from<br />

national speakers on judicial skills in domestic violence cases.<br />

• The Unified Court System (UCS) held two training programs, in Brooklyn and<br />

Syracuse, <strong>for</strong> family court judges covering issues in sexual assault cases.<br />

• UCS <strong>of</strong>fered four day-long sessions <strong>of</strong> attorney-<strong>for</strong>-<strong>the</strong>-child trainings on<br />

advocating <strong>for</strong> children in cases involving domestic violence. Sessions were held<br />

in Manhattan, White Plains, Syracuse and Buffalo.<br />

• UCS in partnership with <strong>the</strong> Center <strong>for</strong> Court Innovation developed an Online<br />

Learning System, available through <strong>the</strong> court system’s public website at http://elearning.nycourts.gov/<br />

Programs currently available through <strong>the</strong> System include<br />

“Working with Juveniles and Young Adults” which provides in<strong>for</strong>mation relevant<br />

to judges presiding over cases involving teen defendants, including domestic<br />

violence cases.<br />
