Juries & Critiques Page 12 The Degrees Page 5 Student Juries will take place in March (the week prior to Spring Break) All students pursuing degrees in The Division of Fine Arts are required to participate in yearly Student Juries. This is an opportunity for students to review their artistic background reflecting on what they’ve gained/learned through each experience. Juries are part of your required student assessment process which must be completed for approval of graduation. It is an opportunity to get feedback from your faculty, to set goals for yourself, and to learn more about where you are in your development. DANCE REQUIREMENTS Perform a one-two minute solo Portfolio Review Panel Interview Audition The dance should demonstrate your best work. You may choreography and perform your own piece or have someone else choreography the piece. You should be prepared to verbally explain the piece to the panel. Include: current resume, artist statement, head shot and body shot, transcript and a written response to the following questions. 1.Reflect on your growth and achievements over the past school year. 2. What do you need to focus on to meet your long term goals? 3. What areas have you addressed, that the panel suggested, since last years juries? Artist Statement: is usually between a paragraph-page. It is a concise/ articulate statement that expresses: Why you dance, what inspires you to dance/choreograph, and how you want others to view your art. Faculty will critique you based on your performance that day and your work over the course of the year. All theatre and dance students will participate in a ―cattle call‖ audition. All paper work must be submitted on Moodle by __Date TBA___. If the paper work is not submitted by the deadline students will not be allowed to participate in juries. Student will be able to sign-up for juries the Monday of Jury week in the Registrar’s office. BA (Bachelor of Arts) The BA degree is appropriate for students who plan to major in Dance, General Theatre or General Music. Art, Music and Speech/Theatre Education students may also elect to pursue a BA degree. The degree requires more coursework in the humanities area. emphasis areas: Dance General Theatre General Music Speech/Theatre Education (9-12) Art Education (K-12) Music Education (K-12) BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) A BFA is a standard undergraduate degree for students seeking a professional education in the visual or performing arts and requires an area of specialty. emphasis areas: Studio Art Graphic Design Musical Theatre An internship is required. Technical Theatre An internship is required. Performance Theatre An internship is required. BS (Bachelor of Science) This degree is designed for students wanting to pursue teaching as a career.
