India Festival 2009 Dr. Mahesh Amin, Our Junior Sardar His height is like Lal Bahadur Shastri, but his vision is like Sardar Patel. Yes, we are talking about Dr. Mahesh Amin, an emerging leader in Tampa Bay 's Indian community. Most people can say that they are either first or second generation Indian, but Dr. Amin is one and three-quarters generation Indian. He was born in India , but as a child he immigrated to the United States with his parents. He grew up in New York , where he also completed his Medical School and Cardiology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital . He eventually moved to Florida in the early 90's. At the moment, he is practicing Cardiology in Clearwater . He has been involved in numerous scientific presentation and clinical trials. In 2008, he became the Chief of Staff at Morton Plant in Clearwater , and is now currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Hospital Board. Not only he is well liked by his parents, but he is also a darling to the Hospital Administration, his colleagues, and to hospital staff members. Someone had once correctly said, "You can take an Indian out of India , but you can't take India out of the Indian." This is true for Dr. Amin, as he is still desi at heart by enjoying Indian food and attending Indian parties. He also encourage his daughter, Sonia, to participate in various Indian cultural activities. Like Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Dr. Amin is a new generation Indian leader. Compared to the first generation of Indian leaders, he has a unique way of handling problems. His spirit is still Indian but his resolutions and efforts are fully American. He is friendly and polite with everybody and does a good job of not offending anyone. He has even tried to unite our divided Gujarati community. Kiranbhai has laid a solid foundation for the India Cultural Center but for the last few years, his efforts have been stalled by apathy from our Indian community. He has passed the torch to Dr. Amin, and Dr. Amin is running the sprint successfully. He has given new momentum to the fundraising efforts for the India Cultural Center . His goal is to pay the debt for mortgage as soon as possible so the future revenues can be used for further development of our community. I encourage all the members of our Indian community to support Dr. Amin in his goal to form India Cultural Center into a successful entity.
