Henryk Domański, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

Sociologist; director <strong>of</strong> the Institute <strong>of</strong> Philosophy and Sociology at the Polish Academy <strong>of</strong> Sciences. Eminent sociologist<br />

in Poland. Author <strong>of</strong> numerous books in the field <strong>of</strong> social stratification and mobility as well as on the methodology<br />

in social sciences. Recent publications include: Social Structure (Warsaw 2007), On Social Mobility in Poland (Warsaw 2004),<br />

Poverty in Post-Communist Societies (Warsaw 2002), Polish Middle Class (Warsaw 2002) and Hierarchies and Social Barriers<br />

in the 90s: the Case <strong>of</strong> Poland (Warsaw 2000). Recipient <strong>of</strong> fellowships: <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Heildelberg, Ohio State <strong>University</strong>,<br />

Nuffield College and Saint Ann College in Oxford, Australian National <strong>University</strong> (Canberra).<br />

David Ewick, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

Specialist in cultural studies; pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> comparative culture at the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Policy Studies at Chuo <strong>University</strong>, Tokyo,<br />

since 1993. Holder <strong>of</strong> a PhD from <strong>University</strong> College London. Visiting scholar at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Cambridge, Obirin<br />

<strong>University</strong> in Tokyo, and Indiana <strong>University</strong>, Bloomington (USA). Published and lectured on Japanese cultural history in relation<br />

to the West.<br />

Jan Grabowski, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

Historian; specialist in North American multiculturalism, New France and the Holocaust. Associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor and Head<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> History at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ottawa</strong>. History lecturer at Nipissing <strong>University</strong> College (1990) and the military<br />

school, College Militaire Royal, in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu (1992-1993). Publishes in French, Polish, Hebrew and English.<br />

Publications include: History <strong>of</strong> Canada (Warsaw 2001), I Know this Jew! Blackmailing The Jews in Warsaw, 1939 – 1943 (published<br />

in Poland, Israel and France). Recipient <strong>of</strong> Gerda-Henkel-Stiftung Award, Yad Vashem Institute, Jerusalem Israel 2005.<br />

Mariusz Handzlik, Counselor Minister<br />

Diplomat; expert in the field <strong>of</strong> security and Polish and American foreign policy. Head <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>International</strong> Affairs<br />

at the President <strong>of</strong> Poland Chancellory. He was first-secretary and political and military counselor in the Polish Embassy<br />

in Washington D.C., closely co-operating with the Pentagon. Ambassador-at-large <strong>of</strong> Poland, and president <strong>of</strong> the MTCR (Missile<br />

Technology Control Regime) in Paris, counselor Minister in the Mission <strong>of</strong> the Republic <strong>of</strong> Poland to the United Nations.<br />

Awarded the distinguished Public Service Medal from the US Department <strong>of</strong> Defence.<br />

Hubert Izdebski, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

Legal scholar; specialist in administrative law. Director <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> History <strong>of</strong> Political and Legal Doctrines at Warsaw<br />

<strong>University</strong>, has been engaged in legislative work in the field <strong>of</strong> public administration since 1989. Author <strong>of</strong> numerous bills. Has<br />

lectured at French, Swiss, British and American universities. Author <strong>of</strong> numerous editions <strong>of</strong> The History <strong>of</strong> Administration,<br />

and Commentaries on the Civil Code.<br />

Antoni Z. Kamiński, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

Sociologist; Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>International</strong> Security and Strategic Studies Department <strong>of</strong> the Polish Academy <strong>of</strong> Sciences.<br />

Specialises in political and economic institutions and strategic studies and corruption. President <strong>of</strong> the board <strong>of</strong> Transparency<br />

<strong>International</strong> Polska (1999-2001). Recipient <strong>of</strong> several scholarships: postdoctoral fellowship ACLS (1975-76), senior research<br />

fellow at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Indiana in Bloomington (1988-89), fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Centre Washington (1996),<br />

visiting scholar at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> British Columbia (1980-81), Princeton <strong>University</strong> (2006) and East China Normal <strong>University</strong><br />

(2006). Lectured in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Ukraine, Belarus, and China. Recently published in cooperation<br />

with Bartłomiej Kamiński: Corruption <strong>of</strong> Governments: Post-communist States Facing Globalisation (Warsaw 2004).
