Buddy System<br />

» Keep several lists of free block of memory<br />

» Each list corresponds to a block of a certain<br />

size (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, …. 128, 256, 512, 1024,<br />

2048kb ...); all block sizes are powers of 2<br />

» Largest block size is the full size of physical<br />

memory (e.g. 16Mbyte)<br />

» Initially, all of memory is free and the 16Mb list<br />

has one single entry; all other lists are empty<br />
