when it is not in memory is not held in the page<br />

table entry<br />

»Why?<br />

» Page table only facilitates translation of virtual<br />

addresses to physical addresses<br />

» If there is a page fault, then the OS uses software<br />

tables to identify the disk address, resolve the<br />

page fault, and swap the pages between page<br />

frames<br />
