Westglow is fortunate to have
talented chefs preparing three
gourmet meals daily. Travis Sparks,
the Executive Chef at Rowland’s is
skilled not only in the kitchen, but
also in the garden. Travis has had a
green thumb since he was just a boy.
Working with his grandfather,
Travis was able to pick up on the
subtleties of gardening. With this
knowledge he plans to spearhead the project of getting both an
Herb Garden and Vegetable Garden growing quality produce by
summertime. In the Herb Garden alongside the main front lawn,
everything from parsley, cilantro, thyme, dill and numerous varieties
of basil will be grown. Also on our property we have a vegetable
garden including zucchini, squash, carrots, peppers and radishes, along
with several greens such as kale, collards, chard and spinach, just to
name a few.
Travis says he has already been bringing vegetables and greens from his
home near Banner Elk for some time now. “With this garden at our
back door, the greens and vegetables won’t lose nutrients before they
are prepared. It really makes a difference when you’re preparing a meal
with ingredients that you helped produce. The quality of food and the
end product is so much better.”
