Mount Mercy alumni participation matters!
Step forward. Give back.
Mount Mercy students benefit everyday from the generosity of alumni and friends.
Annual gifts provide hundreds of scholarships to students who may not have the capacity to afford
a Mount Mercy education, fund student service trips, enhance campus safety, maintain facilities
and ensure continued institutional growth and vitality. Support to the Mount Mercy Fund also has
expanded academic, athletic and fine arts programs at the University.
All annual gifts are crucial to Mount Mercy, but those from alumni have added importance.
Why is Mount Mercy alumni participation so important?
• The term alumni participation, when used in higher education, specifically means the
percentage of alumni who make an annual financial gift to their alma mater.
• U.S. News & World Report considers alumni participation to be a strong indicator of student
satisfaction with their educational experience, and the publication uses alumni participation as
a key metric in its annual rankings of colleges and universities. Foundations and corporations
also gauge alumni participation when deliberating grants. Their rationale is “if alumni do not
support a college or university, why should we?”
• For participation rankings, it’s not the dollar amount that matters, but rather the number of
alumni who give at any level. Gifts of any size — $25, $250, or $2,500 — equally impact these
rankings.
• Although national rankings and recognition increase the value of a Mount Mercy degree,
the bottom line is that alumni gifts sustain Mount Mercy University. Collectively, the many
annual, individual gifts enable us to provide much needed scholarships, services, programs and
upgraded facilities for our current students.
Give back so others may step forward:
• Give safely and easily online at www.mtmercy.edu/give.
• Simply mail a check payable to the Mount Mercy Fund, Mount Mercy University, 1330
Elmhurst Drive NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402.
• Contact a Mount Mercy representative at giving@mtmercy.edu to arrange a personal
appointment and campus tour and discover how you can make a difference in Mount Mercy’s
continued success!
