Extended Day Enrichment Programs<br />
(After-<strong>School</strong> Childcare)<br />
Extended Day Enrichment Programs (EDEP) are operated by the<br />
Department of Instruction in collaboration with each elementary school.<br />
Any student enrolled in an <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>County</strong> elementary school<br />
(pre-kindergarten through fifth grade) is eligible to participate in EDEP<br />
offerings.<br />
EDEP seeks to provide quality attention, thoughtful guidance, authentic<br />
experiences, and engaging activities to enhance and expand the learning<br />
of <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>County</strong> students.<br />
EDEP offers three separate programs:<br />
After-<strong>School</strong> Enrichment Program (ASEP) operates each full day<br />
in all elementary schools from the time school dismisses until 6 p.m.<br />
Inclement Weather Program typically operates on the second<br />
consecutive day of school closure due to inclement weather from<br />
8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mary C. Greer Elementary <strong>School</strong>.<br />
Student Holiday/Spring Break Program operates on selected<br />
student holidays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mary C. Greer Elementary<br />
<strong>School</strong>.<br />
These programs are funded entirely by the tuition and fees collected for<br />
their use. Enrollment is limited. Financial assistance is available.<br />
To register, a parent/guardian must complete a registration form and<br />
return it, along with the registration fee and tuition, either in person or by<br />

Summer <strong>School</strong> Programs<br />
<strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>School</strong>s offers summer programs<br />
for elementary, middle and high school students.<br />
Elementary and Middle <strong>School</strong> Summer Programs<br />
Elementary and middle school principals will notify parents<br />
if their child is recommended to attend summer school.<br />
Summer school for K-8 students typically begins in early<br />
July and lasts for 20 days. For 2014 summer school dates,<br />
please contact your child’s school office.<br />
High <strong>School</strong> Summer Program<br />
Registration for high school summer sessions begins in<br />
May. A schedule of classes and registration forms will be<br />
available in April at your child’s school office; the <strong>County</strong><br />
Office Building, located at 401 McIntire Road, 3rd floor,<br />
Charlottesville; or online:<br />

Driver Education<br />
A certified and professional driving training program leading<br />
to Virginia licensure is offered<br />
year-round at <strong>Albemarle</strong>, Monticello and Western <strong>Albemarle</strong> high schools.<br />

Behind-the-Wheel Training<br />
In-car training is available throughout the school year on weekdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.,<br />
4 to 6 p.m., or 4:15 to 6:15 p.m., as well as during the summer. Requirements apply.<br />
Parent Seminar for Teen Drivers<br />
Before a student younger than 18 can register for Behind-the-Wheel training, a parent/guardian<br />
must attend a free Parent Seminar and receive a certificate of attendance. Seminars are offered<br />
monthly at each high school.<br />
Safety is our goal! <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>County</strong>’s driver education program, including a combination of<br />
classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel, and parent seminars, has resulted in lower teen crash<br />
rates. <strong>Albemarle</strong> <strong>County</strong>’s crash rate for first-year teen drivers is 4.17 percent, compared to the<br />
state average of 4.27 percent.<br />
