Extended Day Enrichment Programs
(After-School Childcare)
Extended Day Enrichment Programs (EDEP) are operated by the
Department of Instruction in collaboration with each elementary school.
Any student enrolled in an Albemarle County elementary school
(pre-kindergarten through fifth grade) is eligible to participate in EDEP
offerings.
EDEP seeks to provide quality attention, thoughtful guidance, authentic
experiences, and engaging activities to enhance and expand the learning
of Albemarle County students.
EDEP offers three separate programs:
After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) operates each full day
in all elementary schools from the time school dismisses until 6 p.m.
Inclement Weather Program typically operates on the second
consecutive day of school closure due to inclement weather from
8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mary C. Greer Elementary School.
Student Holiday/Spring Break Program operates on selected
student holidays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mary C. Greer Elementary
School.
These programs are funded entirely by the tuition and fees collected for
their use. Enrollment is limited. Financial assistance is available.

return it, along with the registration fee and tuition, either in person or by

Summer School Programs
Albemarle County Public Schools offers summer programs
for elementary, middle and high school students.
Elementary and Middle School Summer Programs
Elementary and middle school principals will notify parents
if their child is recommended to attend summer school.
Summer school for K-8 students typically begins in early
July and lasts for 20 days. For 2014 summer school dates,
please contact your child’s school office.
High School Summer Program
Registration for high school summer sessions begins in
May. A schedule of classes and registration forms will be
available in April at your child’s school office; the County
Office Building, located at 401 McIntire Road, 3rd floor,
Charlottesville; or online:

Driver Education
A certified and professional driving training program leading
to Virginia licensure is offered
year-round at Albemarle, Monticello and Western Albemarle high schools.

Behind-the-Wheel Training
In-car training is available throughout the school year on weekdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.,
4 to 6 p.m., or 4:15 to 6:15 p.m., as well as during the summer. Requirements apply.
Parent Seminar for Teen Drivers
Before a student younger than 18 can register for Behind-the-Wheel training, a parent/guardian
must attend a free Parent Seminar and receive a certificate of attendance. Seminars are offered
monthly at each high school.
Safety is our goal! Albemarle County’s driver education program, including a combination of
classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel, and parent seminars, has resulted in lower teen crash
rates. Albemarle County’s crash rate for first-year teen drivers is 4.17 percent, compared to the
state average of 4.27 percent.
