Since 1924, CCU has recruited prospective students who fit a specific profile:
individuals with a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, a heart
for serving people, a passion for reaching the lost for Christ, a firmly-held biblical
worldview, and academic potential.
More specifically, CCU recruited prospective
students who had a desire to train for fulltime
vocational Christian service with a focus
on evangelism and discipleship. Over time,
a belief seems to have developed that the
student profile described above is categorically
exclusive to individuals who desire to serve in
full-time vocational ministry in a church.
This misconception is one of the keys to CCU’s
future as a vibrant and distinctive Christian
university. While the number of prospective
students who want to serve full-time in a
church context may be shrinking, the number
of prospective students who fit the traditional
CCU student profile is holding strong. It just
happens that many of them want to earn a
degree in business, education, psychology,
etc. because their passion is to serve Christ as
leaders in schools, banks, businesses, and nonprofit
organizations.
We are seeking prospective students who
believe that a relationship with Christ can
transform lives, relationships, and the world
and whose personal pursuit of Christ serves as
the motivation to serve, love, and lead. Thus,
the degree program that a prospective student
desires and the career path that a prospective
student aspires to are secondary admissions
considerations, with primacy given to the
student’s love for God and a commitment to
living out the gospel of Christ regardless of
one’s professional context.

Maintaining a high spiritual standard for
acceptance is a critical component of our
growth strategy. We want to attract prospective
students who are prepared to fully embrace and
participate in the CCU Spiritual Development
Plan and achieve personal spiritual growth
while preparing to be effective advocates for
Christ in the church and the marketplace. This
benefits the student individually, it enhances
the campus environment, and it naturally leads
toward the fulfillment of the school’s vision,
which is to “train thousands to impact millions.”
CCU has always been known as a premier
environment in which to train for ministry, a
reputation that was built upon a world-class
Bible curriculum interwoven with effective and
relevant ministry philosophies, models, and skilldevelopment
opportunities. These will continue
to serve as the main building blocks of a CCU
education. The Bible still stands at the center of
our curriculum, we are committed to instilling in
our students a heart for a lost and broken world,
and we will train the highest caliber leaders
for the church and the marketplace. This is an

This year’s theme is Called to Serve and will
feature messages from Greg Marksberry (’88) and
David Dummitt (’03). Classes to be recognized
in a special way are the classes of 1963 (50th
Anniversary), 1988 (25th Anniversary), and the
class of 2003 (10th Anniversary). ALL classes are
encouraged to have reunions. We’ll be glad to

Graduation ceremonies were held on May 17 (for
the seminary) and on May 18 (for our traditional
undergraduates and for the College of Adult
Learning). Prior to graduation week, the Alumni
Association hosted Skyline Chili lunches for our
graduates. There was also a special luncheon
for all CCU faculty and staff, which allowed us to
express heartfelt appreciation to those who so
faithfully serve our school.
It was exciting to see 189 graduates receive their
diplomas. Many proud parents, family members,
and friends were present to encourage
graduates. One very special part of graduation
each year is the opportunity provided to watch

currently directs the special needs ministry at
Christ’s Church at Mason (Ohio).

who earned his Master of Divinity degree, which
will help him as he continues his preaching
ministry in central Ohio.
Leah Claibourne
who received her Bachelor of Science in Music
degree and will begin serving as an intern
at LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont,
Colorado.
We are proud to welcome all 2013 graduates as
members of the CCU Alumni Association. We
want to stay in touch with you and look forward
to seeing how the Lord uses you in the years
ahead.
