have a story to tell. That’s what pubs
are for. With each pint we pull,
we spark a fresh conversation.
And right now, the story on everyone’s
lips – to say nothing of their palates –
is the second anniversary of our
signature pint, Nicholson’s Pale Ale.
We wanted a beer that would get
people talking – a year-round cask ale
for a nation that tells its story best over
a pint. So in May 2012 we teamed up
with St Austell Brewery to put a surefire
conversation starter into every
Nicholson’s pub. Crafted by worldrenowned
master brewer Roger Ryman,
Nicholson’s Pale Ale is a classic caskconditioned
English pale ale (4% ABV).

Pulling pints
and uncorking wines
for six generations of guests
When you’ve been pulling pints for as long as we have, you learn a thing
or two about food and drink. You get to know what guests like and which
wines and foods go well together. More than anything, you know how to
maintain a great pub atmosphere.
A lot’s changed since we pulled that first pint in 1873 (you don’t get much
change from a shilling these days), but some things stay the same: our
friendly welcome, the lively chatter in the bar, and the brass, timber and
stained glass of our buildings.

One thing that’s unrivalled is our real-ale credentials. All our local ales
are Cask Marque accredited, plus each of our pubs has its very own cask
master, ensuring every pint is served as its maker intended. We also have
a fantastic wine selection which boasts a variety of New and Old World.
FOOD AND DRINK TOGETHERNESS
Red wine or white? Dark beer or light? Belgian or Dutch? If you’re not
sure which drinks go best with which foods, you’re not alone. In fact most
people seem to like a bit of help. Which is exactly what we’re here for.
There are no hard-and-fast rules; sometimes unexpected pairings turn up
the most wonderful taste surprises. Tell us what sort of things you like,
