to Adelphi!
Hooray!!! Our newest site and our first one in Prince George’s County, MD, is ready. Thanks to
the leadership of our COO, David Tatro, and to the financial support of CareFirst, we will open the
doors of our Adelphi site on Tuesday, January 31 as projected. The pictures above give a good
idea of how it looks, especially the similarities with our other sites. It’s beautiful!!!

We all should know:
Mary’s Center in Adelphi is located at the Judy Hoyer Family Learning Center.
When referring to this site, call it Adelphi to avoid confusion with the Judy Hoyer Center.
Inside the Judy Hoyer building, there are approximately 10 other agencies that will partner with us
to provide services (the Prince George’s Child Resource Center, WIC, Head Start, Even Start, etc.)
Our clinic has 10 exam rooms.
Our services include: prenatal care, adult medicine, pediatric care, gynecology, and social services
Our hours of operation are: Monday - Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. We plan to open on Saturdays in
the future.
The phone system will be the same, which means we will be able to communicate directly with our
co-workers from our own extension.
To make an appointment, patients can either call our main line: 202-483-8196 or call our local line

On March 1st, we will celebrate the first anniversary of opening for services of our Georgia site and the
opening of the Bernice Fonteneau Senior Wellness Center, yeahhh!!!
We will not have a special celebration for Georgia but we will have one for the senior center with DC
government officials and other important people who have supported the Center. In October, 2011, Mary’s
Center started managing the Senior Wellness Center which is an educational and recreational center for seniors
60+ who live in the District. Services are free.
Happy Anniversary and congratulations to those of you working at these centers
for your committed and valuable work!

February 10th:
Noche Musical, a night of classical music with world known
guitarist, Ernesto Tamayo. Funds raised will support our
summer youth employment program (the Urbanitos).
Place: Church of the Holy City at 1611 16th Street, NW., at
6:30 pm.

May 17th:
Mary’s Center First Annual Golf Classic is an additional event to help raise general
support funds. The success of this event will depend on corporate sponsorships and a
variety of live and silent and auction items. Please consider contributing an item such j
ewelry that you don’t want anymore or season tickets to sports or time shares that you
might not be able to use. Please contact Tyler DeLong at tdelong@maryscenter for more
information.

Our logo has changed with time. It used to be a mom with three children but as our services
expanded, we grew one of the sons into a father to represent the family. It’s very important that
we all use the correct version until further notice.

Our Email Signature:
Starting February 1, 2012, the Advocacy
and Communications department will enforce
the use of the same template –shown below- on
our email signature. Everyone must use the
same font, size and contact information. NO
colored backgrounds and others font colors will
be allowed.
If you have trouble, setting up your signature,
please contact MIS or Amy Bruno in
Communications at extension x7049.
Please use the template to the right as an
example for your own signature. Font: Arial
Size: 10 Color: black. You should copy and
paste the Facebook, YouTube and Twitter from
Lyda’s signature when you received the
newsletter so that the links are maintained.

Congratulations to Christie McKay, our
Director of Education, and her committed team
for the recent re-certification of our Education
Strengthens Families (ESF) Public Charter
School for five more years.
This accomplishment is even more special after
the extraordinary report given by the
evaluators who described the program as
exemplary and unique for the work done with
our families and the amazing outcomes.
The ESF charter school is the ‘education’ component of
our three-legged stool that makes our social change
model so successful.
Share with participants
We urge you to inform your participants about
the changes that TANF (Temporary Assistance for
Needy Families) is going through this year. TANF
is a federal program that provides cash assistance
to families in need. In 2012, the program will
have changes for new applicants and for recertifications.
It is important that you help inform
the families to avoid their loss of benefits.
If you have any questions about these changes,

On January 24, Mary’s Center hosted a
forum at the Georgia site with the
Department of Human Services and the
Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs (OLA) to
inform the community about the changes in
TANF.
If you haven’t seen it…
We invite you to visit our Ontario
site and see the new health kiosk
donated by UnitedHealthCare. This
new kiosk provides our participants
with health information on topics of
interest to them. The kiosk is
bilingual in Spanish and English.

ABC7 or News Channel 8 – our name
might show on their banner with the closing
information.
If we open 2 hours late, the arrival time
will be 10 am regardless of the time that
you usually start.
If you need to leave earlier than 6:15 am from
home, you must talk to your supervisor and
coordinate the best way to be informed of the
closing decisions.
