What is <strong>TRiO</strong>?<br />

• The TRIO <strong>Programs</strong> (TRIO) are federally funded<br />

outreach and student service programs designed to<br />

identify and provide support for individuals from<br />

disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a<br />

college degree.<br />

• TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and<br />

assist low-income individuals, first-generation<br />

college students, and individuals with disabilities to<br />

progress through the academic pipeline from<br />

middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.

Upward Bound<br />

• Eligibility<br />

– Low income, potential first generation college student.<br />

– Neither parent holds a Bachelor’s degree or higher.<br />

• Services provided<br />

– Academic counseling<br />

– Cultural enrichment<br />

– Financial literacy<br />

– Six week summer program<br />

• Schools - Enterprise and Central Valley High School<br />

• Goals - High school and postsecondary school graduation

– One third may have just one barrier<br />

– In 8 th – 11 th grade at target schools<br />

• Goals<br />

– High school and postsecondary school graduation<br />

• Schools<br />

– CVHS, AHS, WVHS, ANTHS, THS, HHS and feeder schools


Talent Search<br />

• Our goal is to support the work of high school counselors<br />

by providing <strong>TRiO</strong> students with the following services:<br />

– Academic advising<br />

– Career exploration<br />

– ACT/SAT fee waivers<br />

– Parent information and workshops<br />

– Connections to tutoring and financial literacy information<br />

– Assistance with financial aid, scholarship and college<br />

applications<br />

– Exposure to college campuses and cultural events
