Scale/Deposit Formation
• The primary reason for deposit and scale formation in steam generating systems
is the fact that the solubility of many of the deposit forming salts decreases with
an increase in temperature and concentrations. The water constituents usually
responsible for these deposits are:
Calcium (Ca)
Bicarbonate (HCO3)
Sulfate (SO4)
Silicate (SiO2)
Magnesium (Mg)
Iron (Fe)
Carbonate (CO3)
Phosphate (PO4)
