Shodair Patients Receive a
Fun Center from Starlight
Children's Foundation
and Nintendo America
Members of the Legislative Spouses
Committee toured Shodair in February, donating
several colorful quilts they made for the hospital's
patients. Following the tour, they received a
presentation on Shodair's history and programs
at a lunch held in their honor. The women
complimented hospital staff on the comprehensive
array of genetic and psychiatric services available
to assist Montana's families.
Shodair Goes Green!
This spring, Shodair's Maintenance Department
started a recycling program for Shodair employees.
A number of different items are now recycled,
including cardboard, newspaper, office paper,
catalogs, magazines, phone books, plastics, and
aluminum and tin cans.
“While Shodair will not make any money
from recycling, it's the right thing to do for
the environment,” said Dave Bossell, Chief
Maintenance Engineer. Dave added that the
program will operate in conjunction with
Helena's S.A.V.E. (Student Advocates for
Valuing the Environment).
You can help Shodair in its recycling efforts, too.

Children undergoing
treatment at Shodair
Children's Hospital will
be smiling brighter and laughing a little more,
thanks to a Fun Center sponsored through the
partnership of Starlight Children's Foundation
and Nintendo. Designed to combat the anxiety
and weariness faced by hospitalized children,
the latest Fun Center model includes a
Sharp® AQUOS LCD TV, a DVD player
and a Nintendo Wii system and various
educational and fun games valued at
nearly $5,000.
“The ease with which Fun Centers roll right up
to the side of young patients' beds or anywhere
in a hospital setting makes them perfect for
hospitalized children fighting loneliness or for
use by Shodair physicians as part of a child's
therapy program,” said Glen Newhart,
Shodair Foundation Director.

Disney Delivers Magic
to Patients at Shodair
Children's Hospital
Shodair Children's Hospital was thrilled to be
the recipient of a 2009 Disney Hospital Care
Package. Each spring, this delivery is sent to
the Shodair Foundation Office to help brighten
the lives of the children and families in
Shodair's care.
This multi-box shipment
filled with Disney DVDs,
blankets and sleepwear, as well as many age
appropriate toys and games, helps provide
normalcy during a child's stay at Shodair
Children's Hospital.
