Curriculum Vitae
Graduate Research Assistant, UCI Chemistry Department
Advisor: Dr. Donald R. Blake July 2007 – January 2012
Atmospheric research: (posters)
Overall goal: collect air samples at multiple sites (on the ground/from an airplane) and characterize
100 ~ 150 hydro and halocarbons, CO and CO 2 . Further data analyses were conducted by
collaborating with a modeling group.
Participated projects/Missions:
Participated in multiple quarterly air collection in remote areas (e.g. Cabo, Barrow, Kodiak, and
along the pacific side of US)
Participated in multiple NASA and CARB field missions or campaigns.
TC-4(2006) data analysis,
Mt. Wilson (2007 ~ 2010) 24 hours ground sampling,
ARCTAS(2008) integration, data analysis, and aircraft sampling,
Long Beach and Pasadena (2010) grid study,
Participated in field campaign during Bp oil spill with Ire Lifer at Baton Rouge.
Flew in a Twin otter and collected air sample above 5000 ft.
Comparative analysis on gases in the atmospheric air and in ocean water/water collected from
water recycling and treatment center at different treatment stage.
Biological research: (papers/posters)
(Dissertation) Breath analysis on patient undergoing hemodialysis(HD) and identification of
exogenous and endogenous sources for compounds found in breath.
Developed and constructed gas stripper for solvents, such as water and blood.
Quantified and qualified 75 ~ 120 hydro and halocarbons, CO, and CO 2 in breath, blood and
solvents.
On healthy male subjects, comparative analyses was done on gases in blood and breath, as well as
on gases in blood, breath and urine while infusing them with known amounts of lipid emulsion
solutions.
Research Assistant (Internship), UCI Chemistry Department
Advisor: Dr. Robert Corn August 2006 – June 2007
Surface chemistry on gold with DNA and proteins
Used SPR, FTIR, and fluorescence microscope as the analyzer.
Undergraduate Research Assistant, CSUF Chemistry Department
Advisor: Dr. Scott Hewitt July 2004 – May 2006
Relative rate studies on different substituted chlorotoluenes (ortho-, meta- and para-), which is a
simple modification from toxic air pollutants, PCDD and PCDF.
As a senior project, poster presentation (2004 fall) and research paper was submitted to the
department (2005 spring).
Advisor: Dr. Fung-Min Tao January 2004 – April 2005
Theoretical Study of Molecular Structures and Properties of the Complete Series of 19
Bromophenols conformers were done using Gaussian 98.
Advisor: Dr. Peter De Lijser May 2003 – August 2003
