24. EMPLOYEES’ WELFARE<br />
Management <strong>and</strong> Employees’ Relationship<br />
A healthy relationship continues to exist between management <strong>and</strong> employees. There were<br />
no unresolved complaints received by Management from the employees during the year.<br />
The Group is an equal opportunity employer. It gives equal access to employment opportunities<br />
<strong>and</strong> ensures that the best available person is appointed to any given position, free from<br />
discrimination of any kind <strong>and</strong> without regard to factors like gender, marital status, tribe,<br />
religion or disability.<br />
Training Facilities<br />
The Group sponsors its employees for both short <strong>and</strong> long term courses within <strong>and</strong> outside<br />
the country in various disciplines depending on the corporate needs <strong>and</strong> financial resources<br />
available.<br />
Medical Assistance<br />
The Group provides medical care to all employees under its medical scheme. Benevolence<br />
expenses are also covered in the employee welfare program. The Company has taken an<br />
insurance policy for workman’s compensation for all staff on permanent <strong>and</strong> contract terms.<br />
<strong>Financial</strong> Assistance to Staff<br />
<strong>Financial</strong> assistance is available to all employees depending on the assessment of <strong>and</strong> the<br />
discretion of management as to the need <strong>and</strong> circumstances. <strong>Financial</strong> assistance <strong>and</strong> salary<br />
advances are provided on case-by-case basis.<br />
Retirement Benefits<br />
All of the Group employees are members of the National Social Security Fund (“NSSF”),<br />
which is a defined contribution plan. The Group <strong>and</strong> employees both contribute 10% of the<br />
employees’ gross salaries to the NSSF. The contribution is charged to the income statement<br />
when incurred.<br />
The Group’s employment terms are regularly reviewed to ensure they continue to meet<br />
statutory compliance <strong>and</strong> market conditions. The Group communicates with its employees<br />
through regular management <strong>and</strong> staff meetings <strong>and</strong> through circulars. The Group has<br />
continued to maintain a conducive working environment in terms of providing suitable work<br />
place, offices, washrooms <strong>and</strong> canteen facilities.<br />
The number of employees in the Group at the end of year totalled 704 as compared to 657 at<br />
the end of year 2011.<br />
25. GENDER PARITY<br />

<strong>and</strong> ensures that the best available person is appointed to any given position free from<br />
discrimination of any kind <strong>and</strong> without regard to factors like gender, marital status, tribes,<br />
religion <strong>and</strong> disability which does not impair ability to discharge duties. As at <strong>31</strong> <strong>March</strong> 2012,<br />
the Group had 450 (64%) male <strong>and</strong> 254 (36%) female employees (2012: 422 (65%) male <strong>and</strong><br />
235 (35%) female employees).<br />
