White Castle System, Inc. YMCA - Downtown Branch Businesses Support Students! It is the partnership between JA and local volunteers that brings JA’s life-changing economics programs to life. And, it is the corporate sponsors “adopting” a school that provides the financial support for materials and volunteer training. During the 2006-2007 school year, 720 companies donated funds to support JA’s award winning programs, and 25 companies actually partnered with schools to provide JA’s programs. E.ON U.S. employee Patsy Allen celebrates a good throw during their Chili Bowl event benefiting JA students. A special bond forms between schools and a sponsoring company, and many companies back the same schools year after year. Thanks to organizations that provide the financial support, JA’s in-school programs are free to students and schools throughout Kentuckiana. Corporate sponsors not only provide the financial support for JA programs, but many companies also encourage their employees to volunteer to teach JA courses. Hundreds Bowl for JA It’s all for the Kids! The Annual Bowling Classic is JA’s largest fundraiser. But it’s even more… the Bowling Classic is an opportunity for area companies to bowl, mingle with co-workers and friends, and celebrate the accomplishments of having raised money for JA kids. And why shouldn’t they celebrate? Bowling Classic participants are helping 40,000 students learn about business and finance. During 2007 the JA bowlers raised more than $175,000 to help educate Kentuckiana children! Several local businesses make the Bowling Classic a company-wide event in place of the usual corporate picnic. Organizations such as Brown-Forman and E.ON U.S. have held their own corporate bowl for years. Participation in the Bowling Classic is a great team-building event for any size business, church, or civic group. A great example of an ambitious and successful Bowling Classic partner is Citigroup During the 2006 Bowling Classic, Citigroup had 22 teams bowling for JA. One strong example of a local partnership with JA is E.ON U.S. They have been a JA partner for decades. The 33 volunteers who helped teach JA programs are just one part of the E.ON story. A corporate bowling event held for the past 12 years has provided much needed funds to support JA’s programs (more than $20,000 a year). Three years ago, E.ON U.S. sponsored the “Multi-Service Center” storefront in JA BizTown. And, for several years they have sponsored schools, Business Challenge Teams and supported the local Business Hall of Fame event. E.ON is truly a stellar example of total JA support! Time has shown that JA partnerships are a win-win for all parties. Organizations involved with JA are proud to serve our region’s students with such lifechanging programs and the students learn skills that will help them succeed in a global economy. Citigroup employees Tamara Ross, Sandy Gross, Adam Neal, Ron Lockridge, & Mike Hall bowl for JA. But, Citigroup wanted to make a BIG impact in 2007 and went for the gusto by recruiting twice the number of teams. With 48 teams, Citigroup raised almost $19,000. Their plan for 2008 is to have 52 teams, so they will fill all of Executive Strike and Spare’s lanes! Keep in mind, Junior Achievement is always in need of organizations to participate in the Bowling Classic.
