ANN O. WEHR NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER
FOR AVMED HEALTH PLANS
MIAMI, FL – October 23, 2012 – AvMed Health Plans has named Ann O. Wehr, M.D., FACP as the
company’s new Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO). In her new role, Dr. Wehr will have
overall responsibility and accountability for AvMed’s Medical Operations, including Corporate Quality
Programs, Utilization Management, Disease and Case Management, Pharmacy, Clinical Coordination and
Education, Health Analytics, and Credentialing.
“Dr. Wehr brings more than 28 years of clinical practice and managed care medical experience and is a great
addition to the AvMed leadership team,” said Michael P. Gallagher, AvMed’s President and CEO. “I am
confident she will contribute a great deal as we continue to focus on improving the health of our members and
ensuring the highest quality of care.”
Prior to joining AvMed, Dr. Wehr was the Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New
Mexico and Molina Health Care of New Mexico as well as having been the President and Chief Executive
Officer at Molina Health Care of New Mexico. Her most recent position was Corporate Chief Medical Officer
and Senior Vice President of WellCare Health Plans in Tampa.
Dr. Wehr earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame and her
Doctor of Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine; she served her internal medicine
internship and residency at Vanderbilt University. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, a Fellow in the
American College of Physicians, a Certified Physician Executive, and holds medical licenses in three states,
including Florida.
In addition to her role with AvMed Health Plans, Dr. Wehr will also be engaged with the leadership teams at
the other SantaFe HealthCare affiliates, Haven Hospice and SantaFe Senior Living. She will collaborate on
health care, quality and clinical strategies and programs. SantaFe HealthCare, is the Gainesville-based not-forprofit
family of mission-driven companies, providing personalized service and high quality programs to
Floridians through all stages of life.
