Lesbilicious Comedy
for the North East
An all-lesbian all-star stand-up comedy
special is hitting Newcastle upon Tyne in
February 2009. ‘Lesbilicious Comedy’ is
the start of several non-scene events for
gay women in the North East of England,
organised by Lesbilicious.co.uk.
Starring at the first lesbian comedy night
on Thursday 26 February 2009 will be
Brighton’s Zoe Lyons, who the Observer
Magazine calls “Confident and razor sharp”
and Time Out says is “One to watch”. Zoe
regularly performs on Sandi Toksvig’s and
Jenny Éclair’s radio shows, and has appeared
on BBC Two’s Mock the Week. Zoe also
scooped the award for the funniest joke at
the Edinburgh Fringe earlier this year (“I
can’t believe Amy Winehouse self-harms.
She’s so irritating she must be able to find
someone to do it for her…”) Joining Zoe Lyons
at Lesbilicious Comedy will be BBC 6music
regular Jen Brister and “bloody funny lesbian
goth” Bethany Black.
“It’s time Newcastle had a queer comedy
scene like Brighton, Manchester and London,”
says Lesbilicious.co.uk co-founder Georgia
Rooney. “The North East has a great gay
scene, but it’s all about drinking and dancing.
That’s why we’ve started putting on events
– to offer something new and different for
lesbian and bisexual women.
“There is a massive gay community in
Newcastle who we feel deserve a bit more
variety. Comedy is just the beginning. News of
the comedy event has been spreading by word
of mouth, and we’ve already had people asking
where they can buy tickets from!”
Inside Out bring a
taste of Manchester
to Darlington
Darlingtons favourite Monday Night, Inside
Out is now host to Manchester Gay Scenes
most recognised face, Cyber Sensation
Chrissy Darling.
Now the first Monday of every month sees
the award winning drag sensation heading
up from Manchester to ‘whore’ the doors
of the North Easts busiest mid-week night,
alongside this, Chrissy hosts a Dance Off
Competition giving the best movers a free
bottle of bubbly! Not bad for a club that
won’t charge you a penny to get in!
