William Reaves Fine Art is pleased to present our sixth annual
Texas Aesthetic exhibition. Over the last half-dozen years, this
popular series has served to introduce Houstonians to the
top regionalist painters working in our state today. As the title
suggests, the exhibition examines styles, themes and aesthetic
forces which have graced Texas art over the long view, and
which continue to inspire our artists today. Through this
diverse array of contemporary paintings, viewers encounter
a remarkable group of artists whose works celebrate the
landscape, people and traditions which have combined
to make Texas…distinctively Texas! From bluebonnets to
cactus, mountains to plains, cowboys to cattle, it’s all here
in one engaging art exposition, making this show virtually
required attendance for every “dyed-in-the-wool” Texan.
Little wonder it is one of the gallery’s most anticipated events.
This year’s Texas Aesthetic VI features recent paintings by 16
artists constituting the gallery’s stable of Contemporary Texas
Regionalists, plus a selection of fine watercolors by Houston’s
own Hunter George, the special guest artist at this year’s event.
The Contemporary Texas Regionalists hale from all over the
state and members include Randy Bacon (Albany), Mary Baxter
(Marfa), Margie Crisp (Elgin), Keith Davis (Austin), Jon Flaming
(Richardson), Pat Gabriel (Fort Worth), Robert Harrison (San
Antonio), Lee Jamison (Huntsville), Rob Kendrick (Austin), Laura
Lewis (Mason), William Montgomery (Elgin), Noe Perez (Corpus
Christi), Jeri Salter (Round Rock), Debbie Stevens (Cypress),
Bob Stuth-Wade (Dublin) and William Young (Palestine).
The works of this group were the subject of a catalogued
exhibition mounted earlier in the year by the San Angelo
Pursuing Texas in Texas Art
Museum of Fine Arts. In addition, their paintings have been
curated into numerous museum and commercial exhibitions
throughout the state, and can be found in significant private,
corporate and public collections throughout Texas and beyond.
Aside from the Texas-centered nature of their work, it is
readily apparent that the group is comprised of gifted young
artists. Across the board, composition and draftsmanship
are consistently superb, resulting in painterly productions
which hold their own with the best of contemporary output.
In their paintings of the Texas scene, these contemporary
regionalists produce authentic work of a high standard,
employing local subject matter to invoke universal
chords. As such, we believe that This exhibition offers
viewers a fair representation of the quality and originality
of Texas artists today, albeit with definite Texas flavor.
The exhibition also represents the gallery’s final show of
this art season, concluding an eventful and successful year.
We invite all to join us for this season-ending celebration.
Not only will a visit bring viewers the pleasure of an artfilled
experience, but also affords us opportunity to convey
our deep appreciation for the continued support of
cherished friends and clients, and to toast the interest and
patronage which all have given to our cause of Texas art.
Enjoy the Texas Aesthetic VI and we hope to see you soon!
