Here come the girls…
As the popularity of the game for girls and women continues to go from strength to
strength, the demand for a dedicated, qualified workforce of coaches and support staff is
crucial to ensure the adequate provision and positive development of our players.
In 2009, a unique partnership will see each of the four County Football Associations from
Yorkshire running a series of coach mentoring schemes for individuals involved with
the female game.
Throughout April and May, West Riding, North Riding, East Riding and
Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA’s will stage a wide range of events.
The aim of these events is to increase the knowledge and
confidence amongst their active coaches, and offer ongoing
advice and support regardless of qualifications.
If you are a coach involved with the female game, aged 16
years and above and interested in getting the very best
advice and guidance from the games top coaches, then sign
up for one or more of the events.

Sports Science Session with Dawn Scott (England Sports Scientist)
Dawn will be working with Leeds Carnegie Ladies FC players to demonstrate how to use
sports science practically in a coaching programme. Dawn will talk about the importance of
hydration and nutrition in a footballer’s diet as well as show some fitness testing examples.

Wednesday 29th April
Long Term Player Development (LTPD) evening with Julie Callaghan (FA Skills Coach Team Leader)
Watch a coaching session that uses the latest coaching techniques, looks at individual and
group work, and includes child guided discovery with Sheffield United Girls Centre of
Excellence players.

Thursday 30th April
1. 5-11 Age Specific Coaching Demonstration by East Riding County FA Skills Coaches
An opportunity to observe the content of football sessions aimed at younger players as
well as the coaching styles adopted by coaches to suit this age group to maximise their
learning and development.
2. Open Age Demonstration with Julie Chipchase (Regional Coach Development Manager)
Julie will be delivering a coaching session to York City Ladies FC and will demonstrate how
to move a session from technique and skill based practices to a small sided game.
3. Goalkeeping Demonstration from Rachel Brown (England Women’s Goalkeeper)
This session will provide coaches with a rare opportunity to observe a coaching session
focusing entirely on the goalkeeper delivered by one of the countries top female players.

Monday 4th May
Women’s FA Cup Final including a match analysis task taken from the FA Level 3
Coaching Award
You will be shown how to analyse the possession, shots on target and set plays of each team. You will come
up with action points for each team at half time and be asked to produce a session plan based on
weaknesses at full time.
Time: 12 noon – 15:30 (Kick off at 13:00)

To order your tickets and secure your place at the session, please return the application form and payment
by Friday 17th April. Coaches that submit their application form after the return date will have to purchase
their own tickets and are unlikely to be seated with the rest of the group.
Wednesday 6th May
Practical coaching demonstration with Hope Powell (England Women’s National Coach)
and Rachel Pavlou (National Development Manager for Women’s Football)
Working with Leeds United and West Riding Girl’s Centre of Excellence U16 players, Hope Powell will deliver
a practical coaching session. Hope will talk through her session involving a full warm-up, main content and
cool-down. Rachel Pavlou will then conduct a short presentation on the Women’s Football Strategy. The
evening will finish with a Question & Answer session
