For this Master Plan Update, the consulting team assumed
that the property parcels included within the current Drew
Park Land Acquisition Program being implemented by the
Aviation Authority would continue until the completion of the
Program, as planned, is reached.
The master planning analyses concluded that there
would be a need to purchase property north of
Hillsborough Avenue, as it becomes available, to support
the Airport's long-term development. Specifically,
additional property will be required to support the
approaches and runway protection zones for the
construction of Runway 17-35 and the extension of
Runway 18L, and the expansion of the north terminal
facilities. As the North Terminal grows from 27 gates to 50
gates (i.e., the four-airside scheme), properties north of
Hillsborough will likely be needed to support surface
economy and overflow public parking demand, and
surface area for rental car service operations and storage
(assuming a consolidated rental car facility is not
developed prior to that point in time). The acquisition of
that property (north of Hillsborough) will also protect the
Airport's ability to grow beyond 50 north terminal gates to
support the airfield's processing capacity.
