Special Sessions
SEPTEMBER - Orientation
The program kicked off the
year with Carlos Gutierrez, EY
Partner, welcoming the Young
Executives & their parents.
Participants were informed
about college preparation and
the admissions process at the
University of Washington as
well as given an overview of
the YEOC 2011-2012
academic year.
November - Accounting
The November session provided a
glimpse of the qualities that lead to a
successful career at a professional
services firm such as Ernst &
Young. Saul Gomez, State & Local
Tax Senior Manager, gave the
Keynote and students participated in
speed networking and learned how to
give a "30 Second Elevator Pitch".
February - International Experiences
In February students were exposed to various Global
Business Customs during Donna Lee’s Cultural
Awareness game. Our students also gained an
understanding of corporate diversity during our
panel discussions with representatives from Nike,
Boeing, Accenture and more. During lunch our
students got to travel around the world and try
foods from various countries and meet the minority
restaurant business owners. Matthew Alexander,
Advisory Senior Manager, shared his international
experiences as the Keynote Speaker.
APRIL - iCreate
May - Case Competition & End of the Year Celebration
JUNE - Senior Spotlight
The Young Executives of Color
were tasks with the challenge of
reinventing the ideal high school
classroom and in teams
collectively develop an idea
(educational venture) to present
to potential social venture
capitalist during the iCreate
Fair. We also had a Start-up
panel discussion with the CEO
of Ezell’s Famous Chicken and
representatives from Getty
Images and LinkedIn.
Young Executives participated in the
annual Case Competition and over
40 EY professionals, YEOC mentor
alums, UW staff and students
volunteered during the session. We
concluded the day celebrating the
accomplishments of the students
and reflecting over the YEOC
program. Ernst and Young's CEO,
Jim Turley, delivered the Keynote
Speech and Ken Bouyer, America's
Director of Inclusiveness Recruiting,
announced the extended
partnership with Ernst & Young for
the next three years.
The final session was an
exclusive celebration that
honored all of the graduates
in the 2011-2012
YEOC senior class. We
had panel discussions,
activities, class awards
and a few stand-out
students give speeches
on behalf of their
classmates.
