SEPTEMBER - Orientation<br />
The program kicked <strong>of</strong>f the<br />
year with Carlos Gutierrez, EY<br />
Partner, welcoming the Young<br />
Executives & their parents.<br />
Participants were informed<br />
about college preparation and<br />
the admissions process at the<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Washington as<br />
well as given an overview <strong>of</strong><br />
the YEOC <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>2012</strong><br />
academic year.<br />
November - Accounting<br />
The November session provided a<br />
glimpse <strong>of</strong> the qualities that lead to a<br />
successful career at a pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
services firm such as Ernst &<br />
Young. Saul Gomez, State & Local<br />
Tax Senior Manager, gave the<br />
Keynote and students participated in<br />
speed networking and learned how to<br />
give a "30 Second Elevator Pitch".<br />
February - International Experiences<br />
In February students were exposed to various Global<br />
Business Customs during Donna Lee’s Cultural<br />
Awareness game. Our students also gained an<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> corporate diversity during our<br />
panel discussions with representatives from Nike,<br />
Boeing, Accenture and more. During lunch our<br />
students got to travel around the world and try<br />
foods from various countries and meet the minority<br />
restaurant business owners. Matthew Alexander,<br />
Advisory Senior Manager, shared his international<br />
experiences as the Keynote Speaker.<br />
APRIL - iCreate<br />
May - Case Competition & <strong>End</strong> <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Year</strong> Celebration<br />
JUNE - Senior Spotlight<br />
The Young Executives <strong>of</strong> Color<br />
were tasks with the challenge <strong>of</strong><br />
reinventing the ideal high school<br />
classroom and in teams<br />
collectively develop an idea<br />
(educational venture) to present<br />
to potential social venture<br />
capitalist during the iCreate<br />
Fair. We also had a Start-up<br />
panel discussion with the CEO<br />
<strong>of</strong> Ezell’s Famous Chicken and<br />
representatives from Getty<br />
Images and LinkedIn.<br />
Young Executives participated in the<br />
annual Case Competition and over<br />
40 EY pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, YEOC mentor<br />
alums, UW staff and students<br />
volunteered during the session. We<br />
concluded the day celebrating the<br />
accomplishments <strong>of</strong> the students<br />
and reflecting over the YEOC<br />
program. Ernst and Young's CEO,<br />
Jim Turley, delivered the Keynote<br />
Speech and Ken Bouyer, America's<br />
Director <strong>of</strong> Inclusiveness Recruiting,<br />
announced the extended<br />
partnership with Ernst & Young for<br />
the next three years.<br />
The final session was an<br />
exclusive celebration that<br />
honored all <strong>of</strong> the graduates<br />
in the <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>2012</strong><br />
YEOC senior class. We<br />
had panel discussions,<br />
activities, class awards<br />
and a few stand-out<br />
students give speeches<br />
on behalf <strong>of</strong> their<br />
classmates.
