Flying Start will be aimed at expectant parents, new
families with children aged 0-3 years and Luton’s school
children who will be the next generation of parents.
Flying Start co-ordinator said: “We want to build on what we already know
works well locally and refocus services to concentrate on preventative
initiatives, creating services that provide support before problems arise, so that
we can really make a difference to family’s and children’s lives.”
The programme aims to develop an additional workforce including key
workers, local students and community volunteers to work alongside families
and professionals to promote good parenting and to link families to other
services. Local people will also be invited to sit on Flying Start Community
Partnerships therefore having a direct impact on decision making and to
influence what services are delivered to support families and individuals.
Flying Start is being developed by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, Luton
Borough Council including Public Health, NHS Luton Clinical Commissioning
Group and a number of partners including the police, university, London
Luton Airport Limited, and voluntary sector organisations.
