MILL HALL — Cole Renninger
has been leading this team since he
was a lowly sophomore and head
coach Scott Baker knows how much
his senior wants to go out on a high
note.
“We believe that we have a group
of kids that can compete at a very
high level,” Baker said. “We’re a little
concerned about our size particularly
on the defensive end, but for the
most part we believe we have the
ability to score a little bit more than
we have in the past. So, that capsules
the team aspect and as for Cole we’re
obviously expecting him to have a
huge year. His confidence level is
extremely high and barring injuries
he’s basically going to break every
school record we have. His singleseason
marks should be very high, he
Baker, Renninger ready for challenging season
has the ability to score and we want
to continue to see his perimeter
shooting improve. He’ll be able to
get other kids involved to because,
like I said, I think we have other kids
on this team that can score as well.”
Watching Renninger play basketball
is entertaining don’t get that
twisted; but as ironic as it sounds if
every game turns into the “Cole
Show” this team will be looking at a
season similar to the last one.
Renninger will produce big numbers
but the bigger those numbers are
they leads to an entire team not having
success. Renninger needs help,
putting it simply. If Renninger goes
for 30 a night that’s great but what
would be even better is if his team
scores 65-70 plus. He can’t be 70
percent of the teams’ offensive production
each and every game. To
Renningers credit he doesn’t just
(570) 748-6727
know how to score he can also dish
out some dimes, but his teammates
need to cash in on their opportunities.
“I think Tyler Everhart has had a
fantastic off-season and he’s going
to be a tremendous shooter,” Baker
said. “He’s just a junior and we’re
looking for him to score the ball
more. Travis Turchetta has the ability
to be an inside-outside play and
just overall, our ability to shoot from
the perimeter is going to be so much
better than it has been in the last few
years.”
The schedule is something that will
look a lot different this season. By
now, everyone knows that CM is an
independent school no longer officially
associated with the Mountain
League. This means the Wildcats
will be unfamiliar with some of their
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
New coach looking
for strong debut
By TIM RAY
MILL HALL — New coach Lindsey Rogers believes she
has a strong group of players that have a lot of potential, but
she knows the burden of proof will be on her coaching ability.
“Getting into a routine and having the players get used to my
coaching style is important,” Rogers said. “I was an assistant
coach for the past five years so this is a whole different role for
me. Me getting use to this new leadership role and the girls getting
use to me as head coach are the two most important
things.”
In the ‘10-11 and ‘11-12 seasons the Central Mountain
Girls’ basketball programs has hovered around the .500 mark.
Needless to say that this year’s group is hungry for greater
things. It won’t be easy though, the Lady Wildcats lose two
valuable players to graduation in Rimma Heverly and Kaylin
Smith. Heverly was the team’s leading scorer and by far was
the best threat from beyond the arc. These two were also the
