Volunteer Co-ordinators Report
Casey North Community Information and Support Service is
a great place in which to work as volunteer co-ordinator. My
role is varied, challenging and very interesting. Overseeing and
recruiting capable volunteers to work in this centre is my primary
focus, along with managing the various programs offered here at
Casey North.
Working alongside such a dedicated and committed group of volunteers as well as paid
staff has helped create a supportive and efficient working environment. During this last
year we have farewelled a number of volunteers as well as recruited new individuals to
be part of the team.
A variety of training sessions have been organised this year and well attended by
volunteers. One of the training sessions this year was interpreter training. This was
delivered by the Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health. Feedback from volunteers
that attended said it was very informative and gave them the necessary skills and
confidence to be able to conduct both telephone and face to face interpreter interviews.
Attending training sessions equips volunteers to consolidate and clarify information so
they are better able to assist clients in our local community.
Social evenings out are always of great interest and met with much enthusiasm and are
well attended. We have been out to many lovely restaurants and are slowly making our
way across the world and sampling many different cuisines.
Finally, I would like thank the fantastic group of people who make up the volunteer
team. Each day of the week has its own uniqueness according to which volunteers
are working making each day different and interesting. Their committed dedication
and willingness to assist our clients has helped make Casey North an outstanding
resource for the community. I would also like to say a thank-you to all of the paid staff,
especially Susan for making it such an enjoyable place to work.
