The Logan Trophy
for Service to Hockey
The Logan Trophy for Service to Hockey is
awarded annually to a Firsts team
member who has demonstrated
leadership on and off the field, assistance,
service, shown commitment and overall
achievement as a Hockey player. The
2013 recipient is Tiana Miles.
Tiana has been a very active supporter of
Hockey at Redeemer in her senior years.
She has always displayed the highest level
of dedication and a very positive sporting
attitude on and off the field. She has
regularly helped out in the running of all
Redeemer Hockey endeavours.
The Boys’ Tennis Award
The recipient of this trophy for 2013 is
Benjamin Noon.
Benjamin was an outstanding role model
for the Tennis team during the 2013
season. He displayed exemplary
sportsmanship and a cooperative attitude
during a season that was competed at a
very high level. Ben’s enthusiasm and
commitment to his team was evident in his
positive attitude at training and by always
putting school tennis before outside
commitments

Jeans for Genes Day
Thursday 8 August 2013
This event is being organised by the
Student Council. The money collected will
be donated to: Jeans for Genes and other
student selected charities.
The Student Council would like students
to observe the following guidelines
regarding their attire:
students are to wear long jeans;
dresses, skirts, shorts; leggings or
jeggings are not permitted;
no singlets or strapless styles;
no revealing clothing eg. no bare
midriffs, no plunging necklines, no bare
backs;
no thong style footwear;
PE uniform must be worn for PE
including appropriate, regulation
footwear and caps;
safety considerations will still apply eg.
enclosed leather shoes in the Industrial
Technology, Science and Home
Economics areas;
no inappropriate messages/symbols/
advertising on shirts, hats and other
items of clothing eg. a Fourex t-shirt is
inappropriate;
clothing should not have holes or rips
and should be clean;
extremes in clothing and hair styles are
to be avoided;
no make up permitted;
expensive items such as jewellery, brand
name accessories such as jackets which
may be removed as the day warms up
should not be worn to school as the
school cannot guarantee the safety of
these items;
a hat must be worn while outside.
We ask students to approach the day in a
responsible way by wearing neat, clean
clothing that is in keeping with college
expectations. Students who are unable to
meet the expectations will either be
withdrawn from classes for the day or
asked to go home.
A gold coin will be collected during Home
Group on Friday for those who choose to
wear plain clothes. It would be
appreciated if the students had a gold
coin rather than a note, as the Home
Group teacher may not have change.
Staff News
This week we farewell Mrs Caroline May
as she finishes up at Redeemer following four
years as one of our Student Counsellors. We
wish Caroline God’s Blessings as she returns to
the UK with her husband. We will certainly
miss her smiling face around Redeemer!

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Year 9/2014 Subject
Information Evening
All parents and current Years 8 students
are invited to attend an important Subject
Selection Information Evening, to be held
next Wednesday 7 August commencing at
6.30pm in Redeemer Chapel.
Parents and students are encouraged to
come to the evening with an open mind,
and to meet with the teachers of subjects
of potential interest.
Year 7 Visitor
Our college community is very fortunate
to have parents who are willing to share
their expertise in a variety of areas. On
Monday 22 July, all of the Year 7 classes
were visited by Mrs Janine Hurley (parent
of Connor and Bianca), who works as a
Hansard reporter for the Queensland
Parliament. Her willingness to tell the
students about her role certainly
supported the Civics unit that the Year 7
students have been studying in
preparation for their trip to Canberra.
Students were impressed with her speedy
typing and her explanation about the
importance of recording parliamentary
proceedings.
Year 7 Canberra Tour
Redeemer’s Year 7 students are currently
visiting Canberra this week, learning about
Australia’s capital city.
In support of the Year 7 Civics studies unit
the students will visit such important
venues as: Parliament House, Old
Parliament House, The Australian War
Memorial, The National Museum of
Australia, The National Gallery of Australia
and the Australian Institute of Sport.
