<strong>JOB</strong> <strong>DESCRIPTION</strong>: <strong>SENIOR</strong> <strong>TEAM</strong> <strong>MANAGER</strong><br />
The Team Manager shall be appointed by the International Events Committee for a period of<br />
three years.<br />
This job description should be read in conjunction with <strong>Bowls</strong> <strong>England</strong> Regulation No. 15:<br />
International Selection Committee. For the purpose of clarity all references to Chief Executive<br />
within this document should be read to include ‘or nominated representative’.<br />
<strong>TEAM</strong> <strong>MANAGER</strong>’S RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
1. The Senior Team Manager will lead discussions during the selection process, in<br />
conjunction with the Chief Executive who will act as facilitator, in a manner that:<br />
a) Demonstrates an awareness of the ‘Duty of Fairness’ which must be applied in<br />
the selection and assessment processes. This is applicable in all sports but more<br />
particularly in those where the processes are subjective as well as objective.<br />
b) Maximises input from individual members.<br />
c) Creates an environment which is conducive to producing a constructive and<br />
effective selection process.<br />
2. The Senior Team Manager shall:<br />
a) Select the Team from the Squad named by the Selection Committee<br />
b) Co-ordinate and oversee the assessment process at the International Trials and<br />
International Matches<br />
c) Nominate the TWO Selectors who will attend the Senior International Series in<br />
conjunction with the Junior Team Manager<br />
d) Appoint the Team Captain<br />
e) Accompany the Team to International Series Matches<br />
f) Regarding all of the above, liaise with the Chief Executive both in advance of and<br />
during international training events/matches/series.<br />
g) Liaise with Selectors regarding attendance at Regional Finals and ensure receipt<br />
of relevant written reports.<br />
INTERNATIONAL MATCH PLAY<br />
1. The Senior Team Manager will be responsible for changes in team formation during<br />
International series and Tests, and liaise with the Chief Executive regarding any such<br />
changes.<br />

2. The Senior Team Manager will be responsible for the preparation, management and<br />
welfare of the <strong>England</strong> squad of players at international training<br />
events/matches/series. This will include:<br />
a) Arranging the format for practice games/squad training days, in conjunction with<br />
the Chief Executive, and giving technical advice as deemed necessary,<br />
undertaking team talks and debriefing sessions and monitoring performance<br />
during play.<br />
b) In conjunction with the Chief Executive, ensuring squad members are aware of<br />
all relevant arrangements appertaining to the event concerned.<br />
c) Attending any relevant meeting/briefing/function on behalf of the <strong>England</strong> Team<br />
that is required by the event organiser or <strong>Bowls</strong> <strong>England</strong>.<br />
d) Utilising the Code of Conduct for players and ensuring any disciplinary matters<br />
that may arise are dealt with appropriately.<br />
3. The Senior Team Manager will manage and co-ordinate all initial contact with the<br />
media on behalf of <strong>Bowls</strong> <strong>England</strong> in the absence of the Chief Executive.<br />
4. The Senior Team Manager will liaise with the Junior Team Manager whenever<br />
appropriate.<br />
5. At the completion of Senior International Series/Tests/Squad Training the Senior<br />
Team Manager will produce a written report within four weeks of the completion of<br />
the event (unless prior written approval for delay has been received) to the Chief<br />
Executive and Chair of the International Events Committee.<br />
DRESS PROTOCOL<br />
Trials and squad/training days:<br />
International events and matches:<br />
Generic shirt and <strong>Bowls</strong> <strong>England</strong> fleece<br />
Playing shirt and <strong>Bowls</strong> <strong>England</strong> fleece<br />
The fleece will be embroidered with the <strong>Bowls</strong> <strong>England</strong> logo and the job title. No individual<br />
names to be added.<br />
MISCELLANEOUS<br />
The Team Manager will be expected at all times to:<br />
1. Observe the <strong>Bowls</strong> <strong>England</strong> Equality Policy<br />
2. Observe a code of confidentiality at all times<br />
