of the community. The “Ten Pearls and Two Rubies”
Scholarship recognizes one Western Region soror,
who best exemplifies the precepts set fourth by
the Sorority’s Founders. Three individuals received
scholarships totaling $2,250. The “Mary Lou Allison
Little” scholarships were Dommenique Witby and
Nicole Velez The “Ten Pearls and Two Rubies”
Scholarship recipient was Soror Andrea Joubert of
Kappa Phi Sigma, who will be graduating from the
University of LaVerne with a master’s degree of
management in the fall.
The Kappa Nu Sigma Chapter is devoted to the
improvement and growth of the sorority by continuing
to be an example of power through sisterhood and
positive womanhood.

The proud members of Theta Epsilon Sigma
alumnae chapter has continued in the tradition of
“Greater Service, Greater Progress.”
For Operation Big Book Bag, Theta Epsilon Sigma
provided the youth of St. Andrews Missionary Baptist
Church with book bags to get their school year started
off right.
Real Men Cook, Prostate Cancer Screening, was
the next opportunity for Theta Epsilon Sigma to shed
its light in the community. Chapter members worked
hard at West Angeles Church to get males signed up
for prostate cancer screenings.
The chapter connected with the Magic Johnson
AIDS Foundation and will be volunteering to get
members of the community tested in addition to
setting up a bone marrow donor booth, this is only the
beginning, Theta Epsilon Sigma Chapter is striving to
keep the Beacon bright in our community.

Theta Upsilon Sigma

Busy Poodles
To say that Theta Upsilon Sigma chapter has been
working hard has got to be the understatement of the
year! We take great pride in leading our “Network”
(alumnae and undergraduate chapters, Rhoers and
Philos), sharing experiences and learning from one
another.
As a result of our collaborative efforts, the Network
has adopted Monroe Middle School and Orville Wright
Middle School and conducted Operation Big Book Bag
at those locations. We fulfilled our Project Africare
service by donating clothing and shoes to children in
Ghana who are orphaned because of AIDS. In addition
to donating to the St. Jude Research Hospital fund
and executing Breast Cancer and Diabetes Awareness
services we’ve also volunteered at the LA Regional
Foodbank and taught our Wee Savers program at St.
Mary’s Academy.
In addition to a host of other services we’ve
completed we have also developed and implemented
an after-school mentoring program at Monroe Middle
School. We spend Friday afternoons leading workshops
and discussions on sisterhood, self esteem, conflict
resolution, etiquette, time and money management
and personal responsibility.
The chapter is definitely branding the name of
Sigma in a positive light within communities. And as
ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho, the chapter will continue
striving to execute the motto, “Greater Service, Greater
Progress.”

Dancing with the Stars
The Northeast Academy Charter School hosted
its 1st Annual Community Star Awards Dinner and
Concert this spring at the Auraria Higher Education
Complex downtown Denver, Colorado.
