Academic Advising<br />

Students who are required to enroll in Academic Foundation (AF) courses based on COMPASS test scores<br />

are seen by a pre-admit Advisor in the Advising and Counseling Center, Room 168 Main Building. To<br />

schedule an appointment with a pre-admit advisor, students should call the Advising and Counseling Center<br />

at (513)-569-1552.<br />

Program Advising<br />

Students who have completed all (or were not required to complete) AF courses are seen by a program<br />

advisor in the Health and Public Safety Division office, Room 312 Health Professions Building. To schedule<br />

an appointment with a program advisor, students should call the Health and Public Safety Division office at<br />

(513)-569-1670.<br />

Mandatory Requirements to apply for <strong>Practical</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> Progression<br />

Complete <strong>PNC</strong> Progression Application - have <strong>PNC</strong> declared as major to apply<br />

Attend mandatory <strong>PNC</strong> Information Sessions<br />

Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above- must maintain GPA throughout application process<br />

Math & Science GPA of 2.0 or above-must maintain GPA throughout application process<br />

Take the WorkKeys test- score of 4 or greater need for each section<br />

<strong>State</strong> Tested Nurse Aide - STNA<br />

If you are not a STNA, you may take MCH 130 at <strong>Cincinnati</strong> <strong>State</strong> or the STNA course offered through<br />

Great Oaks, www.greatoaks.com , to prepare for the state test.<br />

The MCH 130 course offered at <strong>Cincinnati</strong> <strong>State</strong> requires the student to complete a Nurse Aide Training<br />

application located in Health Professions Building, Room 312. Submit the application to the front desk in<br />

the Health and Public Safety Division – Health Professions Building, Room 312 in order to enroll in Nurse<br />

Aide Training. Consider taking the <strong>State</strong>ment of Health form (see below) to your healthcare provider<br />

when completing the Nurse Aide training application.<br />

Take the two-part state Nurse Aide test and pass both portions (written and skills.)<br />

Verify that you are in GOOD STANDING on a state Nurse Aide registry. Obtain a print-out from your state<br />

Nurse Aide registry website showing that you are in GOOD STANDING. For Ohio, please refer to:<br />

If you are already an STNA working outside of long-term healthcare and are no longer current on a Nurse<br />

Aide state registry, please refer to<br />

If applicable, provide documentation of health care work experience on company letterhead. During the<br />

open application period, submit the letter to the Health and Public Safety Division attention Tammy Smith or<br />

e-mail copy of the letter to pncprogression@cincinnatistate.edu letter must be received by application<br />

deadline date.<br />

If applicable, during the open application period provide documentation of military service to Health and<br />

Public Safety attention Tammy Smith or e-mail a copy to pncprogression@cincinnatistate.edu by the<br />

application deadline date.<br />
