Living with HIV and AIDS<br />

This program looks at the AIDS epidemic from the<br />

perspective of Native <strong>Can</strong>adians. The program follows<br />

several HIV-positive individuals, demonstrating many<br />

sides of AIDS - the physical and emotional pain caused<br />

by being diagnosed as HIV-positive, the struggle in<br />

finding that a loved one has AIDS, and the reaction<br />

of community and friends to an HIV-positive diagnosis.<br />

The program also looks at problems that are<br />

unique to the Native community, including the false<br />

perception that AIDS is a "white man’s disease" and<br />

how attitudes within the native community about sex,<br />

shame, and embarrassment can hinder information<br />

programs, costing lives.<br />

defects of children with FAS. Also explores babies<br />

born to cocaine-addicted mothers, illustrating how<br />

cocaine affects the fetus, and explaining that crack<br />

babies are at risk for low birth weight, impaired brain<br />

growth, and malformed kidneys and genitals.<br />
