Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) of 2.5 man<br />

hours per flying hour, and less than five<br />

maintenance hours per flying hour, <strong>Gripen</strong><br />

personnel, fewer spares, less ground support<br />

equipment and less downtime than its<br />

competitors. These inherent design<br />

lowest through life support cost and an<br />

The cost estimation relationship model<br />

shown below has been compiled using<br />

aircraft acqu<strong>is</strong>ition costs and key support<br />

parameters, such as Mean Time Between<br />

Failures (MTBFs) and Maintenance<br />

Man-Hours per Flying Hour (MMH/FH).<br />

Hard evidence for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Gripen</strong> data ex<strong>is</strong>ts in<br />

<strong>the</strong> form of data taken from <strong>the</strong> stringent<br />

evaluation programme run by <strong>the</strong> Swed<strong>is</strong>h<br />

Armed Forces.<br />

All <strong>the</strong> data <strong>is</strong> obtained from public domain<br />

sources such as seminars, internet sites and<br />

contractor briefings. The compar<strong>is</strong>on shows<br />

<strong>the</strong> competitor data for each cost element as<br />
