(Divisions 1, 2 and 3) except that Divisions 2.1
and 2.2 have been combined into Division 2.
• The separate designations for engineers as
being responsible for welding design and/or
welding procedures and practice has been
discontinued. Instead, the engineer is now
referred to as the “Welding Engineer.”
• Each Welding Supervisor must have 5 years of
welding related experience pertinent to the
company’s type of operations.
• The requirement for preparing and submitting
a Welding Engineering Standard has been
removed and replaced with a new document
referred to as an “Operational Control
Procedure.” The purpose of the “Operational
Control Procedure” is to assist companies in
managing key issues related to aluminum
welding quality.
• Performance Levels I, II and III have been
replaced with the new welder qualification
classifications, T, S, FW and WT, which are
identical to those in CSA W47.1.
A complete re-certification is not required; however,
all certified companies must transition to the new
requirements in CSA Standard W47.2-2011 to ensure
continued certification. Provided that certified
companies can demonstrate compliance to the
new requirements prior to April 4, 2012, certification
to CSA Standard W47.2 will continue uninterrupted.
