FOR MOPH CHAPTERS:
The year is coming to an end in a month
and change. Now is the time to start
planning for the Midyear Conference
coming up on January 9—10 in Killeen.
We will be in a new hotel this time.
Friday is training day for Service
Officers. Chapter 1876 Commander,
Justin Kautz, will send out an agenda
soon. Chapters need to fund their
Service Officer for Friday, and fund one
day for the Commander, Sr.Vice, or
Jr.Vice for the Conference. Call me or
e-mail me if you (Commander) or your
Service Officer cannot come,

The Convention made big By-Laws
changes for Associate Memberships, see
those on Page 4, Adjutants Call.
Donations are down this year, not just
because of the bad economy but also the
bad publicity that MOPH received on
TV. This means we have to work much
harder to raise the funds to keep the
chapters and their projects on track. If
asked, Chapters need to inform the
public the money mentioned on TV,
was not money we (departments and
chapters) have available to work with
veterans, active duty service personal
and their families. MOPH does apply
almost all donations for helping Vets.
Your chapter may want to put together
papers stating what the chapter has done
in the past year to help all veterans.
The trailer with the Memorial Wall is
available for display in your area by
appointment. The wall displays the 400
plus native Texans, who have lost their
lives in the two active wars, (Iraq and
Afghanistan). The Department of Texas
wants to display this wall in cities that
have a local chapter. The chapter will be
responsible for storage and transporting
to your area. The wall must be
displayed in a building because it is not
weather proof. You should notify your
local news media to make sure you get
coverage, and also gold star mothers and
widows should be informed about the
coming of the wall. Call me to reserve a
date on the calendar for your chapter to
have it displayed in your area.

FOR AUXILIARY UNITS
Holiday Greetings:
We are ushering in fall with winter
nipping at our heels. Ladies Auxiliary
projects are gearing up for the Holidays
and I encourage all the units in the
Dept of Texas to be generous in your
support of holiday projects, both in
time and monies. Let’s not pull back
from volunteering, donations or
meeting attendance. This is the time to
become a “closer knit organization.”
COMMUNICATION! When we are
reaching out to veterans and their
families, let us not forget about our
own MOPH and Ladies Auxiliary
membership. Especially those that can
no longer make it to meetings because
of illness or illness of a spouse.
Widows and widowers need support,
especially during the holidays.
On the first Veterans Day in 1954,
President Dwight Eisenhower called on
all citizens to “remember sacrifices of
those who fought so valiantly.” With
these words, the day previously known
as Armistice Day was expanded into an
annual event to acknowledge all
American Veterans, a group of men
and women committed to principles
without parallel. The aforementioned
statement was part of a letter sent from
Governor Rick Perry in honor of
Veterans Day. We attended the
ceremony at Fort Sam Houston
Cemetery and the day included a
Dedication of the Purple Heart Stamp
and a Naturalization Ceremony of 12
active duty males and females, from all
branches of the service, sworn in by the
Honorable John W. Primono, US
Magistrate Judge of the Western
District of Texas. What an emotional
event that was! The voices of the
Texas Children’s Choir sounded like
angels in the cool, overcast morning.
What a wonderful treat !
I look forward to hearing about your
Christmas Projects. Please start talking
and planning to attend the Mid-Winter
Conference in Killeen in January 2009.
Making the conference a priority is
important to the success and attendance
of members. Further details will be
forthcoming. Please let me hear from
you. Thanks to the two units that sent
Meeting Minutes.
