Transfer Credit Evaluation
LAURA KNOBLAUCH
HEALTH AND EXERCISE SCIENCE MAJOR
Transferred from the University of Central Florida
“
It was so easy for me to
transfer here. The paperwork
for transfer credits was
straightforward, and everyone
was welcoming. ”
Get transfer credit information fast at
www.transfer.org.
As you prepare to join
our community, you’ll need to know how your credits will
transfer to Colorado State. We offer a couple of different ways
for you to access this information.
If you want transfer credit information right away, visit the
u.select website at www.transfer.org. Simply enter the name
of your current college and a course number, and u.select
will tell you how many credits you’ll receive and which of our
course requirements have been met. Although u.select
doesn’t include every course at every institution, it’s the best
source of information online.
If you’d like to talk to us directly, contact the Transfer
Evaluation Section of the Registrar’s Office at (970) 491- 7147,
(970) 491-7159 or transferoffice@colostate.edu. Our staff
members will answer your questions about credit
transferability, and they’ll send you a complete description of
how your courses will transfer here within two to four weeks of
your admission. Go to registrar.colostate.edu/students/transfer
for complete details.
Get the facts
After we’ve reviewed your
transcripts, we’ll e-mail a copy
of the evaluation to you and
your academic department.
If we can’t determine the
equivalence of your course
work to specific CSU
requirements, it generally will
be accepted as elective credit.
Your academic adviser will help
you learn how your credits
satisfy specific requirements
and what’s necessary for
degree completion.
Here are our guidelines for
transferable credit:
• Credit will be awarded only
for courses taken at an
institution accredited by
one of the seven regional
accrediting associations of
schools and colleges (refer
to admissions.colostate.edu/
transfer for a complete list).
• All courses accepted in
transfer must have a grade of
C- or better.
• Credit earned at a two-year
institution can be assigned
as equivalent to Colorado
State University’s 100-
and 200-level courses. A
maximum of 64 semester
credits (96 quarter) can be
accepted in transfer from twoyear
institutions.
• Pre-college-level courses
that are developmental,
remedial or preparatory aren’t
transferable.
• Vocational-technical courses
generally aren’t transferable.
Exceptions may be made by
individual departments if the
course work is pertinent to
your major.
• Credit may be transferred
from recognized international
colleges and universities.
Courses must be consistent
in level, duration and content
with courses offered at
U.S. institutions, and your
achievement must be at the
level of C- or better.
• Credit may be gained
by taking the general
examinations or select subject
examinations in the College
Level Examination Program.
CLEP exams taken at another
institution are subject to
review prior to the awarding
of credit at CSU. For details,
call the Transfer Evaluation
Section of the Registrar’s
Office at (970) 491-7147 or
(970) 491-7159.
• Credit may be awarded
for qualifying Advanced
Placement test scores
(typically 3, 4 or 5) or
International Baccalaureate
exam results (standard or
higher level, scores of 4 or
higher) completed while in
high school. You must submit
the official exam results
before the transfer evaluation
can be completed.
Note: Many adult and transfer
students who need credit
courses prior to admission
to CSU have obtained them
by enrolling in continuing
education courses. For details,
go to learn.colostate.edu.
TransCentral Advising
Our academic environment
will speak to your interests and prepare you for a rewarding career,
but our commitment to your success starts long before you set
foot in the classroom. The TransCentral program is specifically
designed to help you make a smooth transition to CSU.
At TransCentral, you’ll meet with staff from admissions and
financial services to learn about our application requirements,
financial aid options and campus resources. And if you send us
your unofficial transcript(s) at least two weeks in advance, you
can connect with an academic adviser from the Center for
Advising and Student Achievement (CASA) to discuss your
transfer credit evaluation and how your courses apply toward
your intended degree.
TransCentral appointments are offered Mondays from
1 to 4 p.m. at the Transfer Student Center. Please call us at
(970) 491-1858 at least three weeks ahead of time to schedule
your visit. To prepare for academic advising, fax your unofficial
transcripts to us at (970) 491-7581 or e-mail them to
TransferStudentCenter@colostate.edu. Be sure to include
transcripts from every college or university you’ve attended.
Make a career of it
At CSU, we won’t just meet with
you for an advising session and
turn you loose. We’ll continue
giving you valuable advice
throughout your time at CSU.
The Career Center will provide
expert guidance when you
need it, while the Center
for Advising and Student
Achievement (CASA) will help
you choose a major if you’re
undeclared or refer you to an
adviser if you’ve settled on a
field of study. CASA also helps
students prepare for careers in
health-related professions and
biomedical sciences.
Regardless of your interests,
you can connect with hundreds
of recruiters at our annual
career fair – and they know
what kinds of students CSU
produces. “We’re teaching
students to write, to interpret,
to speak in public,” says Blane
Harding, director of advising
and recruiting for the College
of Liberal Arts. “Those are the
things that employers look for.”
Financial Aid Resources
CSU is a “best value”
public university (Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine,
2010), reflecting our success at keeping a quality education
within your reach. But if you’re like nearly 70 percent of our
students, you’ll need some financial assistance to help pay
for college.
That’s where we come in. Colorado State awards a full
range of need- and merit-based aid to eligible students. You
may receive a combination of those types of aid based on
the information you provide in your financial aid and
admission applications.
To be considered for grants, work-study and student loans,
complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov and list CSU as one of
your choices with Federal School Code 001350.
Financial aid is available for students in a variety
of circumstances, so don’t hesitate to complete
an application.
Visit sfs.colostate.edu to learn more
about scholarships and financial aid.
Applying to CSU
The quality of our academic
programs and the personal attention we provide are just two
aspects of our community that make CSU an outstanding college
choice. To get started on your online application, go to
admissions.colostate.edu/apply.
If you’ve completed more than 12 college-level academic semester
credits since graduating from high school or completing the GED,
you must apply as a transfer applicant. (If you took college-level
courses only while you were in high school, we’ll consider you as a
freshman applicant.)
The fall semester priority application deadline for transfer
applicants is June 1. After that date, applicants are considered
on a space-available basis until July 1. The spring semester
completed application deadline is November 1. For
Transfer admission
standards
In reviewing your application,
we’ll consider your academic
achievements and potential for
success at Colorado State. We’ll
also look at your leadership
and service involvement,
accomplishments in and out of
school, unique circumstances,
maturity and motivation, and
ability to contribute to a diverse
campus community. Academic
considerations include:
• Your cumulative GPA and
credit hours completed
• The variety and academic
rigor of your courses
• Trends in grades
• Preparation for the major
you’re requesting
Strong candidates for
admission have a cumulative
GPA of 2.5 or better in at least
30 college-level academic
semester credits. But if you’re
a highly motivated student with
a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a
4.0 scale, we encourage you
to apply. You may have other
strengths and characteristics we
value as a university community.
Note: Enrollment limits and
the need to complete certain
prerequisite courses may
affect your ability to enter into a
specific major.
Composition and
math standards
All majors at CSU require at
least three credits of college
composition and three credits
of math for graduation. If you’re
transferring here with 60 or
more credits and have not met
those requirements, you must
enroll in the necessary courses
in your first term here.
Before you can be admitted,
you must satisfy our math
requirement by completing one
of the following:
• A transferable math course
with a grade of C- or higher
• Intermediate algebra with a
grade of B- or higher
• High school algebra 1,
geometry and algebra 2 with
grades of C- or higher
• A qualifying result on the
CSU Mathematics Placement
Exam (MPE) or completion
of the online Entry-Level
Mathematics tutorial*
* Go to www.math.colostate.edu/
placement/placement.shtml
(access requires an eID, which
can be created after you apply
for admission).
Transfer admission
guarantee
You’re guaranteed admission
to CSU if you meet all of the
following requirements:
• You’ve received an A.A. or
A.S. degree from a regionally
accredited Colorado two-year
institution since completing
your high school diploma or
GED.
• The institution noted above is
the last one you’ve attended.
• You have at least a cumulative
2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale at all
institutions attended.
Study with honors
If you’re looking for an
intense educational
experience that puts a
premium on discussion and
participation, you’ll find it
in the University Honors
Program.
Once you’re admitted as a
transfer student, you can
apply to the program as long
as you have a record of high
academic achievement at the
college level. The minimum
college cumulative GPA for
consideration in the Honors
Program is 3.5.
If you fall into this category,
you’ll receive a letter inviting
you to apply. If you don’t
meet the minimum admission
criteria, call (970) 491-5679 or
e-mail honors@colostate.edu
to explore your options.
The appropriate track for
most transfer students is
Track 2, Discipline Honors
Scholar. On this track, you
complete honors courses in
your major, and you must be
admitted to the program by
your academic department.
