Creating Your Community
One of the first things you’ll
notice about CSU is that it doesn’t feel like a big school. That’s
just the nature of our campus. And our students have
cultivated this remarkable sense of community by creating
clubs that bring people together and spearheading activities
that give us a common purpose.
But this isn’t merely a place where you can take the helm of
student government, breathe life into a student organization and
get behind causes that touch lives everywhere. It’s also a
place where you can simply be yourself – and
along the way, you’ll develop
lasting relationships with
students who are
academically gifted, highly
motivated and down-to-earth.
“ Everyone has to find the
campus that feels
like home to
them – and there’s
anywhere else. ”
Making a Hall a Home
If you think our residence halls
are great places to live, study and stay up late with some of the
best friends you’ve ever had, you’re right. But they’re also
communities where you can help shape the fabric of campus life.
Whether you serve as a hall council member, a Residence Hall
Association senator or a resident assistant, you can address the
needs of your fellow students and create an environment founded
on mutual respect.
Even if you don’t occupy an official leadership
position, you can still make a statement by choosing
to live with others who share your interests. The Live
Green Community, which offers a rich array of
activities related to sustainability, is just one of our 14
Residential Learning Communities. At CSU, living on
campus means getting involved – and getting the most
from your college experience.
Leading by Example
If you want your voice to be
heard at CSU, you can always express your opinion in the
free speech zone that occupies a corner of the Plaza. Then
again, you can speak to the needs of your fellow students
by getting involved in the Associated Students of Colorado
State University (ASCSU). As part of your student
government, you can promote programs that directly
benefit your peers.
ASCSU members fight for affordable textbooks, review
student fees and fund organizations that enrich the campus
community. They also represent the interests of students on
panels like the Supreme Court, the Senate and the Cabinet.
If you throw your hat into the ring, you’ll collaborate with
some of the most motivated students you’ll ever meet – and
you’ll refine and define your leadership style.
Reaching Out
You’ll gain incredibly valuable
insights as you get involved in the CSU community. But
you’ll learn some of your most important lessons when you
touch the lives of people who may never set foot on
campus. Our students understand the importance of helping
others, and you’ll have countless opportunities to tap into
that spirit of service.
You can get behind Cans Around the Oval and help raise
67,000 pounds of food for families in need. You can spend a
day at a local school and give fourth-graders more than an
elementary-level education. Or you can join forces with 200
CSU students who use their school break to serve
communities around the globe every year. Wherever you go,
you’ll be part of something bigger than yourself – even as you
grow in a big way.
