The ADDYs ® are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative<br />

competition, attracting over 60,000 entries every year in local ADDY ®<br />

competitions. The mission of the ADDY ® competition is to recognize and<br />

reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. Conducted annually by<br />

the <strong>American</strong> <strong>Advertising</strong> <strong>Federation</strong> (AAF), the local ADDY ® Awards is the<br />

first of a three-tiered, national competition. Concurrently, all across the<br />

country, local entrants vie for recognition as the very best in their markets.<br />

At the second tier, local winners compete against other winners in one of 15<br />

District competitions. District winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the<br />

National ADDY ® Awards competition. Entry in your local ADDY ® competition is<br />

the first step toward winning a National ADDY ® .<br />

Entering the ADDY ® competition supports our entire industry, because the<br />

AAF and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds to enhance advertising<br />

through programs such as public service, internships, advocacy groups,<br />

advertising education, and consumer awareness.<br />

Selection of the most creative entry in each category is effected by a scoring<br />

process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every<br />

entry. In each category, a Gold ADDY ® is recognition of the highest level of<br />

creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries in the<br />

competition. Entries that are also considered outstanding and worthy of<br />

recognition receive Silver ADDYs ® . The number of awards given in each<br />

category is determined by the judges, based on the relative quality of work<br />

in that category.<br />

The Student ADDY ® Awards is also a three-tiered national competition, which<br />

is sponsored by the AAF and National Ad2. Occurring in conjunction with the<br />

prestigious ADDY ® Awards, the Student ADDY ® Awards recognize and reward<br />

creative excellence by students.<br />

Our local club is a nonprofit professional development organization enabling<br />

professionals to keep current with trends in the advertising, marketing , and<br />

communications industries and to increase the level of competency within<br />

their profession. We celebrate achievement, sponsor educational events, and<br />

provide a community forum for the advertising and marketing industry in<br />

Eastern Iowa.<br />

The <strong>American</strong> <strong>Advertising</strong> <strong>Federation</strong>: <strong>Cedar</strong> Rapids–Iowa City (AAF: CR-IC)<br />

is affiliated with the <strong>American</strong> <strong>Advertising</strong> <strong>Federation</strong> (AAF) which is<br />

geographically organized into 15 districts which operate as a link between<br />

AAF and its local members. AAF: CR-IC is a part of the 9th district that<br />

includes clubs from MIssouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas City (M.I.N.K).<br />

The AAF: CR-IC is in its 44th year. Thanks to its many talented and dedicated<br />

members, AAF: CR-IC has had a notable presence in the 9th District for 43 years.<br />

We intend to maintain our standing in the district as well as nationally. AAF: CR-IC<br />

will continue to promote advertising-related industries, and the talented people<br />

who work within them, for decades to come. We are proud to recognize some<br />

Jon Eslinger is a visual communicator / designer / independent thinker who is using creativity as a weapon to<br />

change your mind. Born and bred in North Dakota, Jon is currently the Creative Director for Traction in Lansing,<br />

Michigan.<br />

His work has been featured in PRINT Magazine, LogoLounge and Creativity Magazine. Jon has also been the<br />

recipient of more than four-dozen regional and national design awards, including a Premier Print Award and a<br />

National ADDY Award.<br />

Cynthia Everhart is the Marketing Strategist and Owner of Twist Communications, LLC, an ADDY award-winning<br />

firm that is all about Strategy, Collaboration and Successful Resolutions. Twist Communications began in 2003<br />

and has worked with a wide variety of clientele that includes builders, Municipalities, realtors, cabinet makers,<br />

powder coaters, authors, speakers, sports teams, universities, financial institutions, health and human service<br />

agencies and so much more.<br />

Prior to that, Cynthia experienced the Radio/Newspaper/TV/Magazine cycle through a web-based lens before<br />

jumping on to the agency side. Before heading up the Web Development division at Visuality, a Madison-based<br />

branding firm, she was on the start-up and management teams for various award-winning and successful news<br />

[SETH GUNDERSON]<br />

In his former life, Seth Gunderson used to slap on inline skates and slide down handrails or jump over staircases.<br />

He traveled the country and was paid good money to allow other people to produce films about his “skillz.”<br />

Today, Seth is an art director who has been sliding around all kinds of traditional and interactive communication<br />

forms, jumping from one to another with ease. He’s won awards on both the local and national levels for his<br />

work with brands like Merial, Houlihan’s, Shatto Milk Company, <strong>American</strong> Century Investments, UMB Financial<br />

Ahhh, the joys of choosing which college to attend. But how can one choose when every brochure shows<br />

campuses full of coeds having fun everywhere they go — classrooms, dorms, even the cafeteria while receiving<br />

a helping of green beans. Honestly, seeing happy students doesn’t make a college brochure engaging. Know what<br />

does? Crisp design and tons of visually interesting facts about the college itself. This piece of work for College of<br />

the Ozarks stands out in the sea of sameness that is higher education collateral. Here’s a standing ovation to the<br />

College of the Ozarks for trying something different to ensure more eyes focus on their university.<br />
